How are people losing such a large amount of weight?

Recommended Posts

I'm one month out and have lost 12 lbs but am seeing where people are losing large amounts of weight after being banded one or two months. It makes me wonder that if you are one of those people, how many calories and Protein are you getting in? Are you getting enough nutrition?

I'm sure a lot has to do with starting weight. Don't forget the larger you are the more you seem to lose at first. On my pre-op liquid diet I lost 20 lbs. I have a friend who is much smaller, that lost 8 lbs on her liquid pre-op.

Hi:

I am 3 1/2 wks from being banded, I lost 10 lbs on pre opt, to be honest, I cheated and had to get some last things eaten. Since the surgery, I have lost another 13 lbs. I think mine is slow, as I was to lose approx 50 lbs, or at the most 60 lbs. I kind of worry, because I know once I add food (real food) it is supposed to slow down. I would be interested in knowing if anyone is losing faster and what they are consuming. I am still on liquids. But I am allowed to add 1/2 banana to my high Protein Shake daily because of leg cramps. I would assume we are all getting under 1000 calories a day, so I thought it would come down faster. Anyone have some answers?

I went to the doctor today and he told me to be happy that I am losing about 1/2 lb a week now with no problems and I can eat anything without problems.

He did say if you don't have much to lose (like me) then it comes off slower and to not go crazy with the fills if you have not gained or stopped losing weight.

I did beg for a pinch more as far as a fill and he laughed and said I would not push it as long as your losing like you are, but being the nice doctor that he is.........he gave me a pinch more

I am still on liquids and soft foods. I usually consume about 700-900 calories with about 70-90 grams of Protein. Very little sugar and carbs. I also walk about 2.5 miles a day and my weight loss has been fantastic.

I suspect most people are like me and jump start their weight during the healing phase and is slows as you start to eat solid foods and increase you calories.

Remember - everybody has a different rate of losing weight and you can't compare yourself to anyone. As long as the scale is going down that is all that should matter.

I have lost 47 lbs since preop and was banded on August 8th. I was 267 to start. I have just been following the Protein diet to a tee and have had my first fill which I have actually slowed down losing since then ironically. I am getting lots of fluids in daily. At least 64 oz. and eating meat, light cheese in moderation, and eggs. I was just able to add in veggies this week. Every one is different was you will do it!!!! I know how hard it is to be patient though!

I was banded on July 31st. I am down a total of 18 lbs including the pre-op. I am posting my meals and drinks on my daily plate. Its a great place to keep track of what you are eating everyday.

this rate of loss depends on so many things. Everyone is different. If you have health issues like thyroid or PCOS it will affect your rate of loss. Your genetics have a lot to do with it. Your consumption of Fluid and Water, the amount and type of exercise you do, the type and amount of Protein you eat. No one will be exactly the same. Be patient and follow your doctor's rules. Eventually, we will all get there if we do what we're supposed to, just not all at the same time.

I think everyone looses diffrently, just as we all gained it differently..:confused_smile:Some are faster loosers in the begining than others, it is the completed loss and the goal at the end that is important...I know its hard to remember that when others are peeling it off quickly, but it all evens out in the end im told...Its a long term loss, so it takes longer to loose, hope that made sense...lol...Good luck to everyone...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
