Gas Pain After Fills?

Recommended Posts

I've just had my 7th fill (I now have 7.3cc in a 10cc band) and, as usual, several hours after the fill I get horrible gas pains, almost like the ones you typically get after surgery. They're in the middle and go straight through to the back. I've only had liquids all day, why would this occur? My doctor doesn't have a clue. Anyone else have more gas after a fill?

Thanks.

Jan

I had a fill yesterday and I've had gas, but in the form of flatulence! Like a trumpet!! Plus, I sure can feel the restriction. I hardly could eat anything for dinner. It feels like a huge bubble in between my breast bone. But, this is the tool I've wanted and it will work!

Hello,

I am also at 7.3 cc's, but I have not had any gas problems. But I was also lucky that I never had any gas pains after surgery either. I had read all about the pain and kept waiting for it to happen:)

I do notice that especially in the morning things go down a lot slower. Also sometimes at night.

Hope you feel better.

Hi,

I am burping a lot after my 7th fill today. No gas pain, though. The fill hurt a lot,the needle was just hurting my skin.

YES YES YES....I was filled on the 16th and I was having the same feelings. Gas pain like surgery (inside and out) and burping air, but no reflux. I am an RN so I have been racking my brain to understand the anatomy and physiology of this, but nothing makes ABSOLUTE sense? The only burping theory I could come up with is: now that I have restriction I am noticing that I swallow air when I eat and talk more so now than before???? I feel a lot better just knowing my experience is validated by others!

This band is a funny thing...mind of HIS own! :Banane34:

Yes! Isn't this wierd? I had my first fill last Friday and I had shoulder pain for two days and was extremely gassy in my belly. The strange thing is... I didn't have gas/shoulder pain that bad after surgery! It was mild, but this time it hurt. I guess I felt it more because I didn't have the other pain or the meds to cover it up this time! LOL It wasn't unbearable, just uncomfortable!.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
