angiehen 0 Posted August 14, 2008 Hi all, I am in Central Texas. I have been lurking around here for about a year and have decided to go ahead and take the plunge. I just talked to my insurance United Health Care, and I am covered for bariatric surgery. They said my doc just need to submit plans, and they will let me know what hoops I have to jump through (not exactly those words....lol) I have to be honest, the side effect of death has me kind of buggy. I have 4 children, 3 under 10, and I don't want to do something that will leave them without a Mom. This is the only thing keeping me on the fence. Any insight? SugarBean 0 Posted August 14, 2008 Angie - We all know that there is always a risk of death with any kind of surgery, but the risk is really low. I would be shocked if we all did not have a scary thought or two before surgery. If this were gastric, I would be more nervous for you. Lapband, you'll be fine. It is the best thing I ever did for myself and my family. I am a 100% believer in the band. I do think you have to watch what you eat and exercise to get the best results. Be a rule follower and you will be fine. Those kiddos will thank you for it when you have lost the weight and you can keep up with them.
zoomomma 1 Posted August 14, 2008 death is a risk for any major surgery but it is very rare and unlikely. I have had 11 surgeries and everytime I get the warning. as long as you follow your docs instructions you should be fine. it is a very scary thing the first few times you have surgery but with the lap band it is worth the risk. because if you don't do something to help you lose the weight your cutting years off your life by being obese.
