small fills during weight loss period normal?

Recommended Posts

So I went for my 6th...yes 6th fill today ( i was banded 3/18/08) and the PA made me feel like i am a little crazy....Since being banded i have lost 42 lbs (half way to my goal).....At my 4th fill I started to get .2 cc every 3 weeks or every 6 lbs...(anything more then that is too much and I have had to have some removed... Well I though small adjustments were normal at the losing stage.... the PA thinks i might be becoming a little obsessed....I do believe that everyone has a personal comfort level that they like there band...i think i am more sucessful when my band is on the tighter end of the spectrum....has anyone experience something similar?

Getting nervous that something might be wrong...

Gabby I think you are doing amazing, 42 lbs in 5 months OMG I think the PA is crazy. If you have found a system of fills that works for you what the hell do you care what she thinks. Keep up the great work!

Sounds like you are taking care of business. I got my band on Jan 18,08. I have lost 60 lbs. My first few fills were 1.5 and 1.0, then on my 3rd I got .5 and really had to adjust. I have had a total 6.0cc injected , Funny, I don't feel like I have as much restriction as I once did. But I eat a 1/2 cup salad 3oz meat and 1/2 wheat brd and that will last me for about 6-7 hours. don't get hungry but what I eat has a tendancy to last a lot longer. I try to go 45-60 min. before I drink anything. i have gone from 206 to 145. I have to fight for every lb. I walk 6 miles at a time and do the gym 4x week. I will be happy with 4lb/month now. and then maintain.

You guys keep up the good work. Use that tool!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
