How does everyone get time off work to go to doctor's appointments and everything before the band? How long do these appoinments last? I just got my first real job....recent college graduate, and I was just wondering how all this is done...do you tell your employeer, or do you just say you have a doctors appointment?

When I started my job I had to have surgery a month later. If they are a good company they will understand. Each appointment usually lasted an hour or so. Always get a doctors note and photocopy it so you have a copy so it covers your back if they say anything. They dont need to know why you are going to the doctors. That is a privacy law. Good luck with your journey

It's the same as going to any doctor's appointment. You never should have to say why you are going to the doctor if you don't want to.

I actually lucked out in this department. I got all of my testing done in one month, and it was a lot. I had to go to the Cardiologist 3 times to get different tests done.

My job has Summer Hours in place right now, where I got to leave early most fridays. I scheduled my appts Friday afternoon if the office didn't have Saturday/late hours.

I always asked the office hours/days when making an appt. **Usually** if you go to a larger practice with more than 5 physicians they have Saturday or late hours. Check with these types of practices, unless you have to go to a specific person.

My appts always lasted more than an hour.

Wow. I actually was going to ask the same thing. :cool2:I'm starting a new job on Monday and my health insurance won't kick in until October 1st. I really don't want it to look bad having all those appointments while starting a new job. :tongue_smilie:

I get off work on Friday's at 1pm so I'll have to make those appointments after 1pm on Fridays. However I tried to set up an appointment with my primary doctor a couple days ago, and they told me that my doctor left on Friday's at 1pm. So i'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do . I may have to tell my work that I have a scheduled doctor 's appointment, which i do..

I hope this works out. :tt1:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
