girl in distress about surgery

Recommended Posts

So i keep thinking about the surgery going on.. and if i should get it or not. recently at work they send out a company wide information packet about how the whole hotel is doing. and on guest that i recently delt with call me the "heavy set girl." To everyone surprise that bothered me and made me cry. i believe my supervisor was surprised when he noticed that the unifocus made me upset. Reading what that woman had to say about the "heavy set girl" made me want to consider the surgery more and more. i'm still quiet uncomfortable about the whole situation. and trying to decide if i should actually go through with it. my boyfriend is the main reason that i wouldn't get it done. i would want him behind me on getting the surgery done and he always says "babe your fine the way you are. Dont let people put you down." i need help can some one please give me some advice on what i should do

You need to do this surgery for ONLY yourself. If you decided to go through with it or not, it should be for yourself and no one else. I have been the "heavy set girl" my whole adult life and know how it feels to be referred to that way. I also have those people in my life who say, you're just fine the way you are. You need to look at your reasons for wanting to do the surgery, then make a decision and go with it. Hang in there!

my advise to you is ....bottom line , do what is right for YOU. you are the only one who knows how you feel and how it feels to deal with being overweight. don't let anyone make this decision for you.this is a forever life change that will make you so much happier and be able to strut your stuff in front of those people who say not so nice things. i know your boyfriend is important to you but not to sound mean , men come and go in our lives and you will always be you no matter what so do this for you if that is what you feel is right. if he loves you for you then he should be fine no matter what you look like big or small. good luck !!!!

Girl: You don't know what your missing out on. I was just like you before my surgery in May. I did it and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Not for anyone else. I have lost 28lbs and feel like a different person already. The thing I have found that I like the most is, the control that it gives me over my eating habits. It makes me pay attention to what I put in my mouth. I was so out of control. I have such a different thinking process about ME. Do it for yourself. You wont be dissappointed. Its no quick fix, but it changes your life for the better. Dont worry, just make the move to better health. Good Luck.

Bimby.

Mallerygro: Whatever someone calls you has no bearing on what you really are. It's just that person's unimaginative description. Like others here have said, you have to get the surgery for yourself, not whether someone else does or doesn't want it. It's your health. Maybe you're not quite ready to make the decision yet. Do as much research as you can. Good luck to you! :tongue_smilie:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
