Heathiest Fat Person Finally Approved!!!

Recommended Posts

Yeah,

I have not been on the board because I was extremely upset. After doing the psych eval, seeing the nutritionist, going the primary doc for 6 months, I could not get approved. Why? I am too healthy. No bp problems, no diabetes, just morbidly obese. Surgeon fought with them and said that their rationale was stupid, that I have been overweight all my adult life, no miracle was going to happen, and it was nonsense to wait for someone to develop health issues then approve the surgery. Finally got approval this week. My surgery is scheduled for September 23rd. They wanted to do it September 9th but one of my best friends is getting married September 13th and I was not risking the wedding. So that was the next date available. Wish me luck.

That's what I'm worried about too. My BMI is 53.3, but I just had a physical and b/p was normal. Cholesterol was 160. Blood sugar was 80, etc. Of course, I've been morbidly obese for the past 25 years so hopefully, insurance won't act stupid.

Get the surgeon's office to fight the battle for you. My primary care doctor got no where ... but the surgeon's office did.

I just attended my seminar on Monday and overnighted all my paperwork today. Surgeon's nurse said with my insurance, she didn't think it would be a problem...keeping my fingers crossed.

The best thing is to call your insurance company and find out what their qualifications are for surgery. Generally if you have a BMI >40 you should be covered. BUt again, every insurance company is different.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
