SusieC 0 Posted August 14, 2008 I weigh 258 and my ideal body weight is 131? So how do I figure out the percentage?

chicks3 0 Posted August 14, 2008 The best I can figure for you is that if you are 258 and your ideal is 131 you need to loose about 1/2 of what you weigh, is that being 50% overweight?? Not sure, but I would just find out what your BMI is, thats what the experts go by. If your BMI is over a certain # you qualify for Lap Band surgery. Hope that helps answer your question. brown bear 0 Posted August 14, 2008 I agree with chicks regarding the BMI - much more useful measurement. I believe that if you need a percentage, the formula is: (actual weight divided by ideal weight) multiplied by 100 = 258 / 131 * 100 = 196.95% which means that you are currently almost twice as heavy as you should be. If you were at your ideal weight, you would be at 100% of your ideal weight. Hope this helps.

Good luck on your journey.
Jodi_620 37 Posted August 14, 2008 Most require a BMI of 35-40 with comorbities or a BMI above 40. With a BMI of 44 there is a good chance that you will qualify.
