I was banded on the 7th Aug and i have still got stomach pains, the shoulder pain has gone, but the stomach is very tender and sore, I go back to the surgen next week, i am hoping it has not slipped.

I have only been drinking Optifast as the docter ordered, and V8, coffee, Water.< /p>

Alot of the time i am double over and walk as if i have a carrot up my bum  I had to take last night off work because of the pain.

Is this normal pain for the first week? and when can i start to feel better?

Bless your heart I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Lawdy Mercy! You said you have an appointment next week with the doctor but maybe you should put a call into the office now. I know everyone is different and maybe it is just taking you longer to heal but....when in doubt dial those digits! Good-Luck to you!

I also had my surgery on August 7th and I'm feeling the same things. I left work early yesterday and today because it hurt so bad to sit still and upright. My understanding is that it's still normal for the first 2-3 weeks. My doc said not to worry. Hang in there.

With the band, the greatest amount of discomfort following surgery seems to come from the port. I know I had a great deal of pain and discomfort for about three weeks following my surgery. That is not unusual. I had a really difficult time going from a sitting to standing position, and getting in and out of bed was a an ordeal in and of itself.

You should start to feel better soon. However, the best advice we can always give is when in doubt, call your doctor.

I was very sore and unfortable for almost 2 weeks after surgery, but then after that, I felt great. The first couple of weeks are the worst. You should be feeling much better by next week! Hang in there!

Hey, try and hang in. I have been banded for a week now, and i too am having alot of discomfort and pain, particularly where the port site is, underneath my left breast. I too have been told that this is normal and will settle in about two to three weeks.

One tip: when sitting and wanting to stand: shuffle to the edge of the chair, stand slowly in a bent position, and then uncurl your stomach slowly whilst you are trying to stand straight. This does reduce the pain, at least for me. Good luck

I was pretty sore the first couple of weeks as well. Not doubled over in pain, but had difficulty getting up and down. I agree with a PP that said when in doubt, call your surgeon! You should feel much better by next week, but if you're worried you should call.

I was banded on Aug 13th and I've been home for one night, sleeping is really hard. And the pain on the left side almost behind my breast is unbearable. I was given Lortab for the pain and I'm almost half-way thru the bottle. Any suggestions for sleeping I keep proping myself up on a pillow but the port I guess is so uncomfortable it really hurts.

Also, I really can't tell when I'm full since I have so much pain from the port. So I just have 4oz.

Hi Jen,

So sorry you're hurting so bad! I actually found that the best place for me to sleep was on the recliner. I slept there for the first 3 nights, then moved to the couch for 2 nights. After that I finally moved back to bed. I knew that turning around would hurt and that I wouldn't move if I slept on the recliner/couch.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks, I guess I tried to sleep in the bed the first night back at home. I was in a bed in the hospital and awaken about every hour, so I never had the chance to know if I could sleep in it. I talked to the dr. office today and they said just keep taking the meds when I need them during the night.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
