Lap Band vs. Realize

Recommended Posts

Which of the bands are better, my date is Oct 13, I can get either, are the port fills easier one way or the other, is the Realize online system much better, or are there not that many people out there who have had a choice, if so can you relate why you took the road you did?

TIA- matt

well i can tell you what my doctor told me. the diff bt. the lap band and the realize band is like comparing a chevy and a ford. Maybe tha helps. but i do hear that the online benefits that comes wih the lap band is very helpful and there might be a diff. in how much saline the band can hold. hope this helps. if not call someone at the doctors office. they should be ablt to explain. GOOD LUCK

I went with the Realize band. My doc does both, but he seems to be leaning more toward the Realize, I really like the online support, it is very extensive and you can make the info available to your doc so they can also see your progress and how things are going.

I don't know about fills yet, I just had my surgery 1 week ago.

I did not get a choice, but he never mentioned the Realize Band in conversation. I just hope I have a good one. I go to the dr tomorrow and I am gonna ask what I have.

I chose the realize band. I just liked the fact that the port is lower profile, the injection area on the port is a bit wider and the band itself is not as rigid as the Allergen Lapband. My surgery is this Monday the 18th! and I can't wait!

I could choose either, and went with the older band, just because I thought they would have more experience in filling it and I would be finding a different fill doctor than my surgeon and didnt want to run into problems.

I have already had a problem with the port moving I think.... will know for sure sat. It suddenly was right below my skin and the doctor said he stitched it 2 inches under the fat. Took 4 weeks to pop up, doctor said impossible, but I can feel it. woke up in bed and knew it had moved, lets just hope the port hasnt flipped. Have a fill appointment under fluor to check it in 2 days.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
