lstrano 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Hello all, My name is Lisa and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I am considering lap band surgery and I wanted to hear about other's experiences on the process. I lost 100 pounds on my own 2002-2003 and have unfortunately gained ALL of it back in the past two years. :Banane37: This new weight gain is causing many health problems and my doctor has only one answer - lose weight. Which is annoying in itself (I'm sure you all can relate). One of my initial concerns is that I live alone and I am wondering about the recovery time and how others did it if they were alone. I also wanted to just commiserate and maybe get local referrals. I have been VERY hesitant to do this surgery - but I feel that I am too young to be feeling the way I do and feel that it would be a nearly impossible feat to lose the weight on my own. Look forward to hearing from you! Lisa
zeama 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Welcome! It was my health problems that made me decide to do lapband. I had to start taking 2 blood pressure medications this year to control my high bp, and I just had enough. It really scared me that I may not live that long if I did not lose the weight. My hunger is always what held me back and the lapband has been a life saver! I am 5 wks post op and have lost 25 pounds so far and I just got my first fill today. I would do it again, 10 times over! Good luck on your journey!
Leslee 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Hi Lisa and welcome to this wonderful site..You have come to the right place for advice and support...I also live alone and in NY. I am being banded this friday at NYU Medical by Dr. Fielding...I suggest you go online and search lab band @ NYU. That site will give you a brief overview of WLS and give you times and dates for their seminars. As far as recovery I think it depends on the individual but I plan on being back at work on Wed. Good luck on your journey...I know it will be worth it.
