I'm 5 days post-op and feel hungry almost all the time, and I don't mean head hunger, I mean physically - my stomach growls, I feel weak, etc. I'm trying to get all my Protein in, drinking milk, chicken broth, Tomato Soup, etc. I have to be on liquids for 2 weeks. Is this going to get better once I start solids??? I was ready for "head" hunger, but I didn't think I would be REAL hungry! I keep reading other people who aren't hungry at all and thinking what is wrong?

I had the same problem. I was on Clear Liquids for 10 days after surgery. I was banded on a Monday and that Thursday in the middle of the night I started getting hungry. The hunger woke me up and I had to have a glass of skim milk to get back to sleep. Yeah, mine wasn't head hunger either. I had a growling, gnawing stomach. It will definately get better once you are on mushies. I remember that the first thing I had when I could go on mushies was refried Beans. The best refried beans I've ever had. Just hang in there. It will get much better.

My surgeon had us on 5-7 days of full liquids. By Day 5, I was really hungry. I also couldn't stand drinking the Protein Drinks after awhile. I was very happy to start with cottage cheese and refrieds on day 6. I don't think I could have made it for 2 weeks, although in my liquid phase, I didn't think we could have creamy Soups, so it was a bit more limited than yours. Even though I was hungry, I found that just a little bit of mushies was very satisfying. I'm taking it really slow, and my stomach isn't as growly.

If I can make a suggestion to you... Call your doc and let him know what's going on. I was feeling the SAME way you but when I went for my one week post op appointment, I told my surgeon and he told me that if I were feeling that bad, I could start pureed foods a week early!!! I felt 100 times better and you will too, just call your doc first and get the 'all clear' ... :Banane37:

Hang in there!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
