Couldn't find port/Any body Gallbladder problems after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Help! I went for my first fill at 6 weeks(was suppose to be earlier, but had to go out of town). Dr. couldn't find port, he poked around with needed and hands and it has hurt ever since. He is not the Dr who put my band in, that doctor moved away, this doctor has put some in others. I tried to tell him where it was. So he has to do it under Xray. Ever since the visit last Thursday I have had pain in my mid chest and back, with some nausea. Called the Dr who put it in and he is coming to town in a few weeks, so he said to wait for him. NOw I think the pain I'm having is Gallbladder! I have done exactly what I was suppose to eat and do post op, and I'm very frustrated and scared. I'm drinking lemon Water which I have heard helps with stones. Would love any advice. I have lost 25#in 8 weeks. Trying to be positive.

Help:sad:

Can't help with the port question but can tell you I just had gall bladder surgery 4 days ago. I was banded 2 mos ago. I had a dull ache in my upper right side that went around to my back sometimes. They sent me for an ultrasound and it showed many sandlike stones, so I had it removed by my same band surgeon. One thing the nurse told me before the surgery and while I was waiting for the ultrasound appt. was if I wanted to know if it was my gall bladder to eat something fatty like a piece of bacon, if the pain got worse it was gall bladder. Not that I am condoning doing that would hate for something bad to happen. I did it though and it did. The pain didn't seem bad enough to me to warrant another surgery so soon, after all I just recovered from banding. However, they said i could have an attack and that would be really painful and I'd be in the ER so I had it taken care of.

Hi

When you had GB surgery, did you have any Fluid in band? Did you have any nausea after surgery. Just trying to look at what I'm up against. I'm pretty sure it is my gallbladder.

Thanks

Yes when I had my gall bladder surgery I had already had 2 fills. And I am getting a third next week at my post op appt. My nausea was no different than the banding surgery.

I had my gall bladder out a couple of years ago, and let me tell you, when you have an attack, you know it. It was more painful for me than 18 hours of hard labor!! It feels like someone has you in a vice and is squeezing like a huge bearhug right under your breasts all the way around to your back. You can't stand up straight. I was curled in a ball on the bed because I couldn't stretch out. I was scheduled to have my gall bladder out the next day and ended up in the ER the night before my surgery, what kind of luck is that!! But the surgery to have it removed is a piece of cake, I put in a new kitchen floor myself two days after. Good luck and try not to eay greasy foods until you have it taken care of, what set mine off was chips and salsa at the mexican restaurant!!

Hi!

Gallbladder problems are VERY common after weight loss. If fact some Dr. will check the gallbladder prior to sugrery and remove it if there is any indication of trouble. If they leave the gallbladder some Dr. will prescribe Actagall (sp?) which is a drug that helps prevent formation of gallstones.

Think of it like this: Your liver makes bile and stores it in the gallbladder, until it is need to break down fat. If you are overweight, you tend to have a higher amount of bile production/ storage. Your body is making all this bile and suddenly the amount of food you eat is drastically cut as is the amount of fat you take in. Now you have all this bile and no where for it to go. This can lead to gallstones and or inflammation. Gallbladder pain can be so bad people think it's a heart attack. You may want to ask you Dr. to check your gallbladder (ultrasound), before it gets too bad.

Good luck!

I had my gallbladder taken out 3 weeks ago because I was having severe pains. I ended up having 4 attacks and had to go to the ER each time. That's how bad it was because I can tolerate pain but this was worse than going thru pregnancy contractions. Like someone said before, the greasy food is what sets it off. Mine was hamburgers that did it. I didn't have any problems prior to getting the lapband. I ended up getting gallstones because of my weight loss which I read is common. The problem that I'm having now is that I just had my 5th fill a week ago and every since my gallbladder surgery, I noticed that I'm way much hunger and I can get twice as much than before my surgery. Has that happened to anybody? I also started gaining weight so now I'm trying to hold back on my hunger b/c I get hungry every 2 1/2 hours all day.

I woke up with HORRIBLE pain in my upper right side last week. It wouldn't go away. It just got worse and worse. I went to my surgeon thinking it was band related, and it wasn't. It was gallbladder. I had emergency surgery that night or 18 hours later. I have to say, by the time they took it out, I would have rather given birth to a baby. My second child was only a 6 hour labor and you get a break in between contractions. This was constant agony for 18 hours. It's done laproscopically, so the surgery wasn't so bad, but several stones got lodged in my bile ducts and everything backed up into my pancreas and liver. I WAS SICK!! I turned yellow with jaundice and had a second surgery to clear the ducts 2 days later. So don't mess around and wait it out. Have a sono done, to see where those pesky stones are located!!! Mine were so small they couldn't dectect them all. there just happened to be an ass load of them. It's been hell. The second surgery messed with my blood pressure so bad I almost stroked out 3 hours after the second surgery, so please don't take it lightly. Beleive me, the pain will get worse, and if you ignore it, you risk having more complications.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
