Healthy Pre-Op Diet Meal at Applebees

Recommended Posts

Alright, my wife and I are both now on the pre-op diet. We are both are teachers and went to school yesterday afternoon to start getting our rooms ready. Our surgeries are really close to the start of school so we want our rooms ready early.

Anyway afterwards we were tired and extremely hungry and the kids were asking to go to McDonald's. Instead we went to Applebee's b/c we know they have WW meals. We discovered you can really have a great tasting and filling meal while being on the pre-op diet. Here is what we ordered:

Wife - unsweetened ice-tea (she adds propel powder to it to give it flavor), french onion Soup with no cheese and no bread, a side of steamed veggies plain and a side of steamed broccoli plain. She also ordered a second bowl of soup and started to dip the veggies into it. She liked the flavor.

Me - diet coke, French onion soup with no cheese and no bread, a side of steamed broccoli plain, a garden salad with no cheese and no croutons, instead of Salad Dressing I asked for their pico de gallo which gave the salad and extra kick. I ask for some more and put it on top of the broccoli.

It was all very good and tasty.

Anyway, if your struggling on the two week pre-op diet and really want to go out to eat again, here is a great suggestion.

I also went to applebees 2 times while I was on my pre-op diet. It is good to trick your body once or twice and enjoy something a little bit fatter. I lost over 10lbs on it and twice I ate the oriental grilled chicken salad with dressing on the side, honey bbq boneless wings and once I got shooter and was naughty! All the other times I did my shakes!

Wow! Thanks for the tips! I'll be starting my ALL liquid diet Friday but I also have to go to the city (an hour away) that day to meet with my surgeon to get instructions, etc. We'll need to eat out that day and there's an Applebees near the office/hospital so that will be a huge help. I forgot they had french onion Soup. Maybe I'll even bring some of my whey Protein and add some. Oh, wait, I might not be able to get it mixed. Never mind!

With all the talk about cheating on the pre op diet, I wanted to clarify that my pre op diet includes vegetables. I'm not on a 100% liquid diet until the day before surgery.

dwrd, I don't know about any one else but I totally got that. I thought it was great that you shared how you managed to be eating out and doing so well to stay on your pre-op. It also helped me b/c going out scares me now. BUT I'd forgotten broth Soups. I can just ask the server to give me a bowl of broth. I see my surgeon in the AM and I'm going to ask him if I can have broth on my pre-op. I hope so or I'll not be able to have anything til I get home tomorrow and we could be in the city all day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
