This is my first post. I live in VA. I have jumped through all the hoops. Did my three month diet and excersie, needed for Aetna. Lost 18 pounds. And have been lurking on this great site for many months. Today I got the call from surgeon and got approved. It only took about 1 week. I will see him soon to get all the final details. I am going to NY at the end of Sept. so I guess I will get it done in Oct. After that terrible 2 week pre-op diet. Thanks for all of your help. Anyone from Fredericksburg????

Welcome to the board! I'm in Richmond and was banded this past June! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Where are you having your surgery? And just so you know, I didn't find the two week pre-op terrible. Would it be my choice for ever, absolutely not, did it work...sure did :whatchutalkingabout Good luck!!

Congratulations!!!!!! I live in Louisa County and will be banded this Thursday in Richmond at St. Marys Hospital. The pre-op diet is not horrible, you just have to stay strong and you will get through it, it is just a pre-cursor to your new lifestyle. Congratulations again!!!

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum and would just like to say hello and that I think that this website is awesome! I was recently approved for lap-band surgery about 1 month ago ( in a process that took about 5 months to complete!) and sadly to say after going to the Dr. for my pre-op visit, i found out that in 4-5 months since the 1st time I saw him that I have gained like 20lbs! My surgeon told me that I would have to reschedule my surgery, which was set for Aug. 28 when I lose this weight because of the fat around my liver, but I'm confused? If someone decided that they wanted to have lap-band surgery today and they weighed like 320lbs( which is like more than i weigh) and they met all of the requirements as far as insurance and BMI etc.. and they got approved, wouldnt they have the same amount of fat around their liver as me? I'm very sad, because I dont want to have to wait like 2 months if longer to lose this weight to get back to where I was when I first started this lap-band process! I'm afraid that in that time frame the insurance will cancel the approval! Can somebody please help me with suggestions! Does anybody know what type of diet I can do to get this weight off quickly for the sake of my surgery? :crying:

I would call your surgeons office and find out if you can start the liver shrinking diet. I lost 17 pounds in 2 weeks on it. That would put you where you need to be by the time of your surgery. Good luck!

No problem  I'll be glad to share the diet my surgeon had me on, but it changes from one surgeon to the next. I wouldn't see why he wouldn't be okay with you maybe doing it from now until your surgery. If you stick to it, the pounds will fall off. Let me know what you find out!!

Well I would be happy if you would share the diet with me. I talked to my surgeons receptionist and she said to go ahead and try that or South beach phase 1..basically she was like do any and everything you can do to get the weight off in 2 weeks! They havent cancelled my surgery date yet, she said they won't cancel until 48 hrs before the scheduled date. I hope that is enough time! But yep..I'm on my way to the store now so if you have the diet and ingredients I would love to jump on the ball! I go by Yvonne! Thank you again!

My diet for the 2 weeks before surgery is going to be Protein Shakes Breakfast & lunch; South Beach dinner (lean meat 4 oz., salad or green, leafy veg); Protein Shake @ bedtime. Protein shakes must be 20-25 Gm. protein & 0-3 Gm. carbs. I use vanilla Protein Powder and flavor with SF Jello or pudding mix (1-2 spoons) or a pkg. of Crystal Light (On the Go). Protein shakes are best made with very cold water rather then milk. Clear Liquids only the day before surg. Yes, you can do this. You also can come to this message board for any emotional support you need. Have a blessed day...every day is a new beginning. MC

Ok Yvonne, here it is  For my shakes I used either the Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free ones (they are in a blue bottle or packet, I used the bottles as they were easier) and the Slim Fast High Protein shakes.< /p>

Breakfast: A shake

Lunch: A shake and a small apple

Snack: a light yogurt

Dinner: 2 pieces of whole wheat light bread (I used Weight Watchers bread) and 4 ounces of lean deli meat (I used Hilshire farms in the gladware with a red top). I also drank 1 cup of V8 juice.

I drank lots of Water throughout the day. It wasn't fun, but wasn't awful either. You can put mustard on your sandwich at night (not mayo though). I liked toasting the bread every now and then to change things up. I hope this helps. Like I said, I lost 17 pounds in two weeks doing it. I stuck to it 100%. Keep us updated on how you are doing!!

Thank you, Just a few questions because for some reason I didn't get your response back yesterday and couldnt log back in last night! The carnation shakes do they come in powder form or liquid..and the slim fast high Protein are those in a can or powder form..(just so I know what to look for at walmart) does the carb and protein level have to be a certain level or grams etc.. reason i ask is because my friend has some Protein Shake mix..(she is a gastric patient) that she is allergic to and cant use anymore and offered them to me. I didnt know if your Dr. req. a specific type or not? And then the fruit part.. is the apple a must or can you do an orange or something? just asking..not trying to be difficult? lol! If the way you did it is the only way..then I will do it your way!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
