How do you know if you have something stuck in your band??????? I think I ate to fast tonight, chicken, and felt uncomfortable for about 45 minutes. Then I've been throwing up, small amounts, for the past hour and a half or so. I tried sipping some Water, just to have it come back up a few minutes later. I feel like a dork and don't want to call my doc over something like this. HELP!

It sounds like you have something stuck. Try drinking some pineapple juice. Or mixing some meat tenderizer with Water and drinking that. Those things can help break down the meat or any food.

Personally if I was throwing up for more than an hour or so, I'd call my surgeon.

Good luck and eat slower next time. :whatchutalkingabout

I feel like a dork. It's like I just forgot that I'm banded!!! Won't do that again any time soon, that's for sure. Thanks for the quick reply... I may try the juice. =o)

I hope you are feeling better this morning. If you are just sliming or pb'ing, you are probably fine and we all go through this until we learn to avoid those things that get us there.

Some people suggest drinking some things but I don't think this works for everyone. I have found that if I drink anything, it has to come up immediately. It just makes it worse. Even if it was a liquid that can help break things down, it doesn't stay in long enough to do anything.

I have found the best thing if I am really stuck is to stand near the toilet, bend at the waist with my mouth open so things come out easier and faster. Gravity helps clear you out sometimes. I don't mean vomiting, I just mean allowing the pb and slime to escape a little easier. This has really cut down the recovery time.

I am much better today, THANKS!!! I continued throwing up for a while, and I knew when it was all out of my pouch. I've eaten just liquids and some lunch meat today; things I know will go through really easy. I figured that everything would be tight from the throwing up so I wanted stuff that would flow easy... Thanks for the advice, I was really nervous there for a while.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
