Hi guys, I'm still around, just don't come to the forum that often these days. I'm well and recovering, just a little slower these days.

I made great progress in the beginning - walking, showering and dressing were major goals for me that I accomplished quickly. These days, recovery is a little slower and I find the biggest issues are the ones that forced me to have my band in the first place - I now walk with a limp that I am very self-conscious of, my left arm is still pretty weak and I find a lot of tasks difficult, my movements usually don't look 'normal' and I feel people stare at me when I use it - the same issues I had when I was obese. I've lost 33kg. Admittedly, most of those were in hospital where I could not access junk food or overeat and I was doing a few hours of physical therapy oer day to get back on my feet.

It's funny, when I had no movement in my left arm, I would have killed to be able to struggle to use it. Now I struggle and would kill to be able to do things with ease. I feel greedy now. I will continue to get better slowly, I just have to be patient (i'm the world's most impatient person). It would be good to know just how close to my former life I will get - just not with the extra 1/2 person attached, thgen i'd have something to look forward to.

Greeneyes. Good to hear you are on the mend. I can understand you must be feeling so frustrated with your recovery, but hang in there. A friend of mine went through the same thing many years ago and it was a battle but she did get there. try not to let it get you down. And 33 kilos is great weight loss, well done:thumbup:

I know what it feels like to think people are looking at you and I know this is easy for me to say, but walk with your head held high, be proud and just say "fuc* em".

Good luck :)

Greeneyez, you can get as close to that person as you want. Determination plays a major part in recovery. Seek out stories of other people who have made amazing comebacks after serious accidents or strokes. Think about joining a support network in your area. I'm sure they are out there. Fill your day and your mind with potential.

I'd also recommend a very gentle yoga. You simply go at your own pace, do whatever you feel comfortable with. There's no one to compete with or against.

I 110% believe you can do whatever you set your mind to!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
