Hi everyone,

I am new to this board. It looks like there is some really good information.

I am still in the process of making a decision to do the band or not. I am really afraid of the surgery and of failing. I went to the Doc and saw the band and did all the initial paperwork but cancelled the 1st appt to start the ball rolling. I am not one of those people who just "do" things. I have to know all the pros and cons and figure out a way to work thru them. Someone very close to me had the Band done in July and she is doing great. She is a very upbeat positive person and I tend to be the oposite. Any advice or information anyone has is greatly appreciated. It looks like everyone is very open and honest.

In my experience it is amazing... sometime i really do feel like i am failing because i was not really restricted until recently and even that is touch and go. The truth is though the weight is coming off and i didn't do very much to get there. it has been a very slow process and i have slipped up many times but i am still going down and it is wonderful. I am so glad i did it.

It is a life changing experience. However, for me it's definetly for the best. If you're unsure just take your time researching and reading of their success and if it may be the case their failure.

The band is a tool... If you're motivated and willing to work for what you want you will lose the weight. The weight will come off without trying I am sure but very slowly. The more you work the band and exercise the greater potential it has.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
