Hi, New and in Fort Bragg NC

Recommended Posts

I am new to the site and to NC. I just moved here from Germany in July and am now looking forward to beginning the process towards getting a lap band. I have made my appt. with my PCM in Sept. to get my referral and begin what all I need to do leading up to the surgery. I am hoping to find out about the support group and maybe anything I can do in advance before even seeing the dr. in the hopes of speeding things up a bit more so perhaps I can have the surgery this year instead of in January or later.

HI

I went to a seminar for a surgeon in Pinehurst as well as the one in cary and I was way more pleased with Dr. Enoch's staff in Cary. They have a support group once a month in Raleigh at Rex Hospital. I found the doc in Pinehurst to be more into Gastric Bypass. There's also a difference in the quality of the band dr. Enochs uses. It's a lot better. We got to see the difference between both at the last support group.

My sister had surgery year ago in Georgia and she's had great success so I've decided to do the same.

Good luck to you. I'm scheduled for Friday August 22,2008. I'll keep in touch thru this site to update.

I recently have looked for a surgeon to do my surgery. I work at REX and I've heard good things from the nurses. From what I hear Dr. Moran is not very personable. Dr. Enochs is much more then Dr. Moran. The OR manager I work with is going to do some investigating and find out more information.

Previously, I was looking into Dr. Kenneth Mitchell Jr. in Pinehurst. However I learned that his mortality rate is 4% and that kind of freaks me out.

I plan on attending the seminar next month.

Anyone who has any thoughts specifially on Dr. Enochs, let me know!

I went to the seminar for Dr. Mitchell and although the P.A. did the presentation not Dr. Mitchell, I was not impressed with their practice. They are very "PRO" gastric Bypass and were not very supportive in my opinion of the band. They also use the "realize" band which is different than the one Dr. Enochs uses.

I have attended a support group for Dr. Enochs and after attending both, I was "extremely" more comfortable and more impressed with Dr. Enoch's practice. He is very sweet, soft spoken and caring. His staff is the same. They are all very friendly and never appear bothered by the constant questions I have.

I am scheduled for the surgery on 8/22/08. I feel very comfortable with my choice to use Dr. Enoch's practice. His next support group meeting is 8/28/08 at Rex Cancer center on 2nd floor. You can call their office for more info but everyone is welcome. Last support group (which is the only one i've been to) his P.A. Lisa and one of his nurses were there. They are sooooo sweet. He came also and walked around answering questions. It was like being with family and friends.

If you would like any further details email me at goaliemom@nc.rr.com

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
