Hello, I am 5 days pre-op. I am feeling well. I am just not sure if I am drinking enough. I am supposed to be on 3 meals of Protein Shakes, about 4 oz per meal. And Clear Liquids in between. I am trying with the clears, and not doing too well with the shakes. They taste worse now than before surgery. :rolleyes . I have been able to do about 6-8 oz of shakes and maybe 10 oz clear liquids in between. I hope this is enough. They say I have to do shakes and clears for 3 weeks after surgery. Is this the normal? Need some advice, Thanks!!! :nervous

Hi Robyn,

Each doctor has their own post-op rules, 3 weeks of liquids seems a little long.

Most of the time its a week of clear liquids, a week of full liquids, a week of mushy foods, ect.

About the protien shakes, try different ones. Slim Fast, Atkins, Boost... diffferent brands has slightly different flavors/taste. You may like one and cant tolerate the taste of another.

For the Water intake, try filling up a large cup/bottle and sip sip sip ALL day long. Youll be suprised how fast you can consume it.

Another idea is popsicles. This is another way of getting in some liquids.

:)

Congrat's on getting banded!

Yes...very normal, but very hard to follow. My dr wants me on liquids for 3wks post op...but I'm sneeking in some semi-soft foods, like cottage cheese and yogurt. I'm 1 1/2 weeks after post-op. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
