Howdy from Texas! Goin' with JourneyLite

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am so excited (and nervous) about my upcoming lap-band procedure. I am new to the forum and I can't wait to discuss my progress & emotions thru the journey. After seeing 3 different surgeons, I have decided to go with Dr.Matthew J. St. Laurent of NW Endo-Surgical. I have been researching this procedure for MONTHS and taken my time about choosing a physician. They all seemed well qualified but he seemed the best for me and my needs (you just can't beat lifetime adjustments & his bedside manner...he rocks)

Just wanted to say 'Hello' and hope to hear from anyone that has had their procedure with Dr.Laurent! Can't wait! :D

I had my band done by Dr. Collier/JourneyLite & I'm very pleased with everyone involved. I'm not that pleased with the results so far though. I was banded May 8 & have had 4 fills & finally have restriction. I've only lost 12 lbs since May. That's depressing since I was self-pay. I just started working out so maybe that will help. Anyway, Good Luck neighbor!

I bet working out will totally be your ticket to success! I know the band will 'help me' (not cure me) of my eating issues but working out will be a detrimental key to my success. My Mom is a personal trainer (I wish I lived closer to her) and the simple mantra...excersize and eat right...has always lingered over my head. Sadly, I have always lacked self-discipline in the eating department (not so much what I ate, but HOW much) which is why after 7 years of struggling with food and diets I decided to go forward with this procedure.

It sounds like you have lost weight (12lbs) by your band alone (am I right?). So I bet the exercise will really help you. Please keep me posted!! Thanks so much for writing to me! :crying:

Hi there! Thanks for writing!!! I hope all goes well with your insurance. I am 'cash pay' (finance) so I wish I could help answer questions for you. I have asked a LOT via the procedure itself, so if I can help in any way in that department please let me know. Please keep me posted on your status neighbor! I LOVE Austin! I would move there in a heartbeat if my hubbies company wasn't here!! So jealous of you!!! ;-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
