maleliz777 0 Posted August 12, 2008 So... I start my all liquid pre-op diet tomorrow and my surgery is in 8 days!! Wow... So intense. Im so nervous but excited at the same time. I've never been put to sleep before so im extremely worried and ive never even had an IV. Im just so overwhelmed.... I keep thinking... Will I make it 7 days eating NOTHING? Will I come out of surgery perfectly fine? Its just an instict but im so excited to see the results!! Any encouragement or stories for me?
Lanakila 1 Posted August 12, 2008 Is your liquid diet "clear" liquids? If not, you can have Soups like Tomato, or strained "cream of". It's not going to be easy, but think of it as the work you have to do to make sure that you don't end up having "open" surgery because your liver is in the way. Hang in there...and vent all you like here on the boards! We're here for you
maleliz777 0 Posted August 12, 2008 I can have Water, crystal light, 100% juice, Soups but they have to be tomatoe Soup or chicken broth, SF popsicles, SF Jello and of course my Protein Shakes. Thats about all. I am going to stick to it 100% because I want my liver to be easy to get around for surgery.
ShelbyD 0 Posted August 13, 2008 You can do it! The pre op diet is tough but it feels so good to tell your surgeon that you did not cheat!
~Patty~B 0 Posted August 13, 2008 I always had trouble getting an IV, until someone finally told me to drink plenty of Water the day before. Since then it has been a whole lot better.
krtork 0 Posted August 14, 2008 You can do it! Just make sure you keep up on the Protein and it is not so bad. Focus on the outcome and next week will fly by. You will be in surgery and become an official bandster in no time at all!
Roheryn 0 Posted August 14, 2008 I really must remember to do that!! My veins can be troublesome!
beth443 0 Posted August 14, 2008 I understand your worry. I am on my third day of clear lipuids I get banded the 22. I have a horrible bowel prep the day before. The not eating is getting easier. The bowel prep still looks horrible.
Roheryn 0 Posted August 14, 2008 Is that the one you have before a colonoscopy?? If so it isn't pretty....
maleliz777 0 Posted August 14, 2008 A bowel prep? Ive never heard anything of that... Does that mean I wont be getting that and what is it.
krtork 0 Posted August 14, 2008 Bowel prep, agh, how fun. I did have to do a bowel prep for my surgery, I noticed it varies from doc to doc. You get to drink some really salty nasty tasting liquid that cleans out your bowels. It is supposed to kick in after 6 hours, well mine took longer than that and it wasn't until the morning of surgery - oh my! You then have many lovely very liquid BMs that clean everything out!
