I can't remember the title of a book about lap band surgery - something like the before and after of living with a lap band? There is a moderator here that usually suggests it. Anyway, I'm only a week or so out from my surgery and I should have ordered it already! I had it saved on my other computer but it bit the dust. Can someone please tell me again what its called and if you know of anywhere I can get it cheaper than Amazon? Thanks!

Before & After

I doubt you'll find it cheaper than Amazon - that's where I got mine. Susan Maria also sells it on her website as part of a package that includes about a dozen single-serving sizes of various Proteins to try. She did not have a band, she had gastric bypass, but it's still a great read and totally relevant.

Never mind, I found it. Its Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band: Everything You Need to Know Before and After Surgery to Lose Weight Successfully by Sewell and Rohrbough.

Thanks!

I picked this book up over the weekend (weight loss surgery with the adjustable gastric band by Robert Sewell) and ready half of it last night, awesome book! I did pick up the other one (before and after) from the library and did not care for it at all, the layout and content was just not informative enough for my personal tastes. I did however find another great book from the library and liked it. It's the personal story of Mohammid Ali's daughter and her personal experience with getting banded, I'd definately recommend it.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered this book and a High Protein cookbook from Amazon.com for my wife. She is a couple months away from satisfying the insurance obstacles before she can be banded. I hope she finds this book helpful.

Speaking of cookbooks, I got one of those too! I sat and read tons of them (Chapter's is awesome for this) and was able to pick the one I thought I'd use the most. I read some of the low-carb books, some by the South Beach diet, but the one I bought was put out by Company's Coming and it's great!

Much like their name ^ the only band book I bought was Lap-Band for Life by Dr. Ortiz. Some people don't like it, but I did. I thought it had some good info, and I was able to read it in one day. I think I ended up giving it to another bandster..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
