Did something so stupid and now I'm sick...

Recommended Posts

:crying:This is my first experience w/ getting sick post band. I was running late this morning and didn't eat Breakfast or take time to pack my lunch so I bought a toasted bagel w/ cream cheese at work. First clue should have been...I haven't eaten any bread since my surgery (duh). I must have eaten too fast and not chewed enough because now I feel like I'm on the verge of throwing up i.e sweaty, queezy, and overall sick nausea. Anyone else experienced this? If so, what should I do - just wait it out or drink Water to push it through? :confused2:

Oh I am so sorry. Yeah Bread and I do not get along at all and i am almost 6 months post op. I think most banders have experienced this at one time or another. chalk it up to a learning experience. ie don't do it again.

Ok if you drink Water it may just make you throw up. I would wait it out. But if it has to come up let it come up. You do not want to get a block

if you do throw up or start sliming my doctor suggests going back to liquids for 24 hours.

throwing up can cause your stomach to swell.

Hope that you feel better.

we have "bagel day" at work on thursdays... i thought if i chewed really good things would be okay... they weren't.

i don't do good with foods being stuck. it hurt way too bad so i can usually make myself PB to get the food out. i stand in front of the toilet and bend at the waist. the stuck food usually pops out pretty quickly. (not that i'm encouraging you to do this)

i would NOT drink anything. it will only make things worse!

Bagels are NOT my friend anymore. Not to mention they have a gazillion carbs. I think they are so dense, they just swell inside. Drinking Water may only make it a lot worse where you have no choice but to have it come out.

Good luck . . . I know what you are going through and thank goodness those things all pass in time. I feel your pain.

I can't do Bagels either. Just one of those foods that I have to do without...but there are other alternatives (wraps/pitas) that I do fine with.

Try to wait it out. I find if I drink afterwards it makes it worse - the Water ends up coming right up. If you get too uncomfortable call your doctor. I know, it hurts like hell. Try to hang in there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
