Psych Eval In Two Parts?

Recommended Posts

I had the first part of my two part psycological evaluation today. The doctor was nice, though he didn’t quite know how to deal with me as a blind person. He was quite comfortable when I suggested I take his arm, and he didn’t start the session by asking about my blindness, which a lot of doctors do. I guess curiosity gets the better of many people. I don’t mind, just thought it was interesting.

Anyway, he asked questions I’m sure most people who have gone through the evaluation are used to, and then he told me about the written test. He wanted to be sure that the person who reads the test to me won’t in any way change my answers. He asked if I’d be comfortable having someone read the test to me. My best friend’s niece is going to do that. I offered to pay her, because it’s going to take two or three hours, the doctor said.

Has anyone else done the psych eval this way? Just curious. My best friend is visually impaired and is concerned that because of her limited vision it might take much longer, not to mention that her eyes will get tired.

I have no idea about how it will go with someone reading it, but I'm pretty sure it would pretty much be the same just take a little longer maybe. I'm sure things will go well. Good luck.

My doctor told me that depending on how long my answers were the session would be one or two sessions. Mine ended up being only one session that included the therapist reading off the questions to me.

My psych doc didn't have me do any written tests or any kind of tests. He just talked to me during the first appointment. At the second appointment he spoke with my husband and then with me. It was actually one of the less stressfull appointments I've had pre-op.

Thank you all. I was hoping I wouldn't have to have the test, because I've read about so many people who haven't had to take it. I think that was neat, Bjornsyouruncle, that your therapist read the test to you. But my friend's niece is very supportive, so it will be cool. thanks again to you all

Debbie.

My Dr never gave me a test either. At the first meeting she said "so tell me about yourself" and as I did she asked questions. We have a few issues that need to be discussed and worked on so I will be seeing her a few more times.

Serenity55 do you use JAWS or Zoomtext to read the messages here. Perhaps the Dr could put the test onto a disc for you and you could use the JAWS and Zoomtext program to read the questions and you can type out the answers. Also some of the Libraries in our County have SARA a reading machine like a copy machine that will scan the questions and than read them to you. You can record SARA reading the questions and than answer on another tape. You might want to check if your Libraries have SARA. Just a few ideas other than having your best friend read them for you.

Good idea. I could ask. I have JAWS, but I'm not sure the doctor would let me take the test away from the office, and I don't have a lap top. But it's worth a try.Thank you ssflbell.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
