Recommended Posts

I know that when I was on Prozac, I gained 15 pounds in 1 month...so your antidepressant could be to blame. Also, are you taking in alot of liquid calories??

My doctor told me to excersise and I would be surprised on how much more I would loose. Trouble is I have issues with my feet to standing or walking ect for any length of time is a challange..... any suggestions?

Try a recumbent exercise bicycle. You're basically sitting with your legs out in front of you.

Most gyms, etc should have them, even the little ones like community centers.

I know several people with PCOS personally, although I don't have it myself. It seems that PCOS, insulin resistance and being significantly overweight all go hand-in-hand in every case.

What I am not sure about is which came first, the chicken or the egg. Does being overweight lead to insulin resistance and PCOS in people that are predisposed to developing it? Or is PCOS the primary issue and weight gain and insulin resistance are side effects?

In my friends that do have it, they can go on extreme diets, exercise an incredible amount and only have a very small impact on weight. It is almost as if traditional weight loss methods are minimally effective when PCOS is an issue. Does that also seem to be the case for those of you who have it?

Thank you very much for the explanation on PCOS. I am past menopause, went into it early because of loss of an ovary. I had some of the symptoms, only mine was my thyroid it too a few years to diagnose it and that's when I gained a lot of my weight. I also developed Type II diabetes. So a double whammy.

Just was banded last week, was bloated and went up to 224 and today a week later am down to 207.5 So I lost a lot of the bloat and Water. A few lbs. also. So I am feeling good.

It also keeps you from getting pregnant. My surgeon told me that this surgery could get rid of the PCOS that I have. I have my periods every 20 days and are very, very heavy. A lot of overweight women have it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
