Everyone is counting on this to work, epecially myself, and my parents, who forked out the money do genourously for me to have the surgery! I dont wanna let them down and most important i dont want to let myself down! I am eating less and excercising more!!! I just dont get it! I was banded June 12th, 2009 and weighed 254. Now August 11th i still anywhere between 248-250 depending on the time of day!! Im so discouraged!! i have had one fill. i am at 4ccs. My next one is Sept. 5th. I cant wait. I have PCOS, and have been reading some threads about it. Could this be affecting my weight loss, and if so how? and what can i do about it?? I dont take medicine for my PCOS, just antidepressants foe anxiety! If anyone has any advice or words of encouragment i would much appreciate it!!! Thanks!! :confused2:

Can you tell us what a TYPICAL day of eating is like for you and what kind of exercise your doing and how often?

I recommend that you call your dietitian. What you eat is such a huge part of this process. Try going back to basics--high Protein, watch your carbs. Are you drinking any calories--those are dangerous. Do you journal your food intake?? I've found fitday .com to be very helpful.

Best wishes to you!!

I've been banded a year and have barely lost 20lb. It is very important to watch WHAT you eat not just how much. I have been eating WAY less this whole year, but it hasn't done a damn bit of good. The only way I can lose is by going low carb and no sugar which is pretty much what my doc says also. Eat Protein first, veggies 2nd and anything else last. NO SUGAR.

I had my lapband over a year ago and I have been stuck at around 60 now for 5 months!!! I have over a hundred lbs to go still and I am so dang depressed. I wanted my clothes to be following off of me by now but even though they are baggy I can still wear them!! I totally understand what you are thinking and feeling. My doctor told me to excersise and I would be surprised on how much more I would loose. Trouble is I have issues with my feet to standing or walking ect for any length of time is a challange..... any suggestions? Have you lost any more weight? OH HOW DO YOU GET THE scale PICTURE ETC???

I have not had surgery yet, but I do have PCOS and I take metformin to help with the symptoms. It has helped me so much. I lost wt. fairly fast while taking that and just trying to eat lower carbs & higher Protein. No exercise at that time. Maybe you can talk to your Dr. about trying the med. it really help regulate my blood sugar and I am not diabetic. I am just slightly insulin resistant according to my blood work. I am sure there is no one answer, but maybe if you try all of the suggestions you will loose wt.

Good Luck,

Gina

hi i also have pcos and was banded on the 23rd of june, sounds like i am in exactly the same situation as you, definatley eating less i have been on fluoxetine for depression for a few years and was starting to feel really low about lack of weight lost. i actually went to the doctor last week and have gone back on metformin which i stopped taking a couple of years ago. and have lost 2lbs this week which has made me feel better but i havent had a fill yet. i think it is going to be a longer, slower process for us my mum and dad also paid for me, and my mum is very supportive saying at least a pound off is better than a pound on!

Looking at your weight tracker it seems like you're actually on target. Tell me if I'm reading that wrong...you started at 280 (pre-op) and now 248? You have lost 32 lbs in about 12 weeks with only one fill!!! That is fantastic Where do you think you should be??? Unless you can honestly say that you're sticking to the recommended food plan minus lots of surgary / fatty food then you're doing fine. Otherwise, I think you need to change your thinking about the band and not be so hard on yourself. Remember the band isn't like gastric bypass where you lose a 1 a day...this is is more realistic i.e. 1 to 3 lbs per week. I hope this helps.

I went through a similar period of not losing weight. That was also the time my muscle structure changed and became stronger. I also re adjusted my diet.

But one point I'm trying to make. Is it could partly be changing muscle structure and getting stronger making scales give a "false negative".

I am insulin resistant, and wouldnt be surprised if I had PCOS when I was younger. I really watch my carbs. If I eat hardly any fruit or carbs I dont lose. Im really pushing the fish. I try to eat very few carbs, because they cause your insulin to spike and you can gain weight just from the excess insulin in your body.

Im walking twice a day now and watching it and only losing about 1 lb a week as hard as Im trying. I have a fill this Sat.

Shamrock... PCOS stands for Poly sistic ovarian syndrome. Us who have it do not have a normal matabolism. Our bodies are insulin resistent. It is nothing that you can develop after surgery. Its just a "disease" that a lot of women have that causes weight gain, skin tags, certain discoloartion of the skin, and some even have extra testostresomes or how ever you spell it, lol which can cause hair to grow in weird areas, like the face. Also your period could be irregular. But i was diagnosed awhile ago and tried taking met formin for mine, but it made me very sick to my stomach so i stopped. My doctor says my PCOS is the reason for most of my weight gain. But who knows.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
