Anyone else banded on or around 7/29/08?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious to see where everyone is on their eating stages. I was banded on 7/29/08 and are just about done with mushies..I'm pretty confident that soft foods are close but I just wanted to get a pulse check on others that were banded around the same time. How do you feel? What are you eating? If you are on mushies, what are you eating to stay full??:wink2:

I was also banded on that day and just started mushies. Now that I know I don't have to limit myself to 1/4 cup of mushies, I'm just fine. I eat pretty small portions but have stopped losing weight like I was when I was on liquids. I'm just wanting my first fill, which won't be until Sept. 23! (I have a busy doc!)

Hi, I was banded on 7/24 and I'm still on full liquids (1 Protein Shake per day, cream Soups, Tomato Soup, yogurt smoothies, etc...). I can start eating solid foods on 8/14...a couple of days. No mushy stage for me. My Dr. doesn't do it that way. I've actually been at a stand-still with my weight these last few days, even though I've only been having between 650-800 calories per day and walking most days! Maybe my calories are too low and hopefully once I start eating I will lose again.:wink2:

Thank you for your input! Wow, it's crazy how different most doctors are...I go back to mine on Thursday and I am hoping that he approves me for some soft foods!! I am also at a stand still with my weight but I hear that's pretty common since we are introducing somewhat solids back into our diet. Good Luck with the weight loss!!

Hi Nicole,

You might want to check out http://www.nutritiondata.com/ . When you look up the nutritional data of a food, they also present a "Nutritional Target Map" which displays how filling that food is as opposed to its' nutritional value. Some filling and nutritious mushy examples:

Food qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqFullness Factor qCalories

pumpkin, canned, without salt qqqqq4.4/5qqqqq 83/cup

Beets, cooked, boiled, drained qqqqq3.7/5 qqqqq37/ 1/2 cup

CREAM OF WHEAT, instant, prepared

with Water, without salt qqqqqqqqqq3/5 qqqqqqq149/cup

Oat Branqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq3.95/5qqqqq 88/cup

zucchini, includes skin,

cooked, boiled, drained, with salt qq4/5 qqqqqqq31/cup

Good luck... having just enjoyed an hour of root canal, I'm back to mushies myself for a few days...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
