How does a fill feel?

Recommended Posts

i was just banded on the 8th and am already worried about what a fill will feel like. Does it hurt? I'm sure it gets better than this. :wink2:

I had my first fill today & it was a breeze. It was painless & quick. I did feel something when the needle penetrated, but it was not something I was familiar with. It was not pain, or a prick, or sharp. I did feel a small & short prick like pain about 10 minutes later. Wierd. :confused2:

It doesn't hurt, I just feel a little pressure because my skin is kind of numb around my port. It is a weird feeling when the saline goes in, sort of a squeezing sensation inside. It's really nothing to be afraid of.

Ok...first of all, I know how nerveous some of you may be...after I recooped from surgery I thought. "OMG...NOW i have to have a fill!"

luckily, my first fill was so very easy...I didn't even feel the first prick! and then it was just sip Water etc....

My second fill, I had a "newer" nurse and she ended up bending the needle against the back of my port so she had to stick me again....

Not horrible but not really fun compared to fill #1.

Good news is, the momentary uncomfortableness was just that...a moment...better than a pap smear or the likes!

So, you too can grin and bear it! NO PAIN....NO GAIN.....

Good luck

It looks worse than it is. The needle isn't jabbing into your inards as it goes into the port so it really is a quick pinch. I must say that feeling the liquid go in is the weirdest part for sure. It will give you a tightening feeling.

I don't get the numbing done first. Hurts no worse than a blood draw (a little less actually). I think it feels weird when they pull it back out...not painful just a weird "pop".

When I had my first fill I did not have any numbing meds. I was actually more worried about the fill than the surgery itself. It was a small poke, didn't hurt at all, when the needle was removed I was sitting up, and it was a very weird feeling, didn't hurt, just a strange sensation.

Good luck

I go tomorrow for first fill and I am also nervous. Thank you for all of your input and stories, it does help.

When my doc does an adjustment, he makes you drink barium and puts you under some sort of xray machine... I would think that method would bring the chance of a second or third stick with the needle... I sure hope so because I'm not a needle person...

I AM NOT A NEEDLE PERSON and I have had one fill I think I worked myself up more than I should have. I got numbing meds and of course I got sweaty and worked up just watching the screen and I can feel the needle inside it was a weird feeling is all and I was lucky to have the needle bent while going in too....but he pulled it out and I would have perfered him not to have even told me I wouldn't have even known and all would have been better. BUT over all it DOES NOT HURT I did it to myself now my next fill I know what to expect and I feel that I will do TONS better and be more relaxed. IT DOES NOT HURT!!!!!!!! Trust me I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles I faitn at giving blood go figure!!!!!

That is called fluro. I had that done with my first fill, I think he told me he always does it for the first fill. But he didn't use fluro to find my port, he inserted the needle while I was lying down then had me walk over to the x-ray machine with the needle still inserted I swallowed the barium (just a little) he watched it go down saw that everything was OK then did the fill and had me drink some Water.

i had my first fill yesterday, and you know what? i was a bit nervous; i wasn't nervous at all surgery day! i thought that was kind of funny. but anyway, it didn't hurt at all. it was just a weird feeling when he hit the port, for me it was like, "oh my gosh, i actually have something inside me!" not creepy feeling, just weird :Banane37:

Its easy as pie... pardon the pun!

The poke is next ot nothing and you don't feel the actual fill.. it's over in seconds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
