Not enough saline in band?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow lapbanders. I had my surgery on June 30 of this year. I have lost 23 pounds, maybe more -but I decided not to weigh again until I go for my next doctor appt. at the end of this month. I had two ccs of saline added when I went for my one month post-op visit. I haven't had any vomiting, or esogial (sp?) discomfort. Now I am wondering if my band needs more saline because I can eat a 'soup bowl" size salad, and not be really full. Am I stretching my new little stomach. I'm going to call the doctor's office tomorrow and ask his assistant if I need to come in for more saline. Anyone else have more room in their new small stomach than they expected? How many ccs of saline is "normal" for everyone? Thanks for any info, I appreciate it. Pam in Alabama

Each Dr is different in how they do fills. Some are agressive and fill you up and then remove saline until you can drink Water. Others, like my Dr are slow to fill the band up. At first that bothered me. Now I can see the beauty of it. My fills were all very comfortable and now I am right where I want to be. It also depends on the size of the band that you have. Have you asked your Dr which band you have?

If you are losing and comfortable, don't give another thought to your fill level until your next appt comes around. If you don't have one, you ought to go at least once a month until you reach the "perfect" fill for you. Wish I could have been more specific. We all are so different. Thus our experiences will be different.

You usually don't get the restriction that you expected to have until the third fill or more. Just enjoy being able to eat a little more right now because soon you will do well to get down 1/2 a cup! I have found it better to let the doctor make the decision about whether I need a fill and how much. I know someone who tries to tell the doctor what to do and she has had to have at least 3 unfills already!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
