September 9 banding

Recommended Posts

Went to my doctor last week, after a year of hesitating and thinking about it, finally got my letter from my PCP and took it to surgeon. Was given op date of September 9. Just did upper GI last Saturday, psychologist and nutritionist next monday. After that all papers go to insurance for approval. IS it me or is this all moving too fast. I hope I am not disappointed and have my surgery pushed back. In two weeks start pre-op diet of 5 shakes per day, thats it thats all. Have to lose 5% body weight to shrink the liver. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, excited but cautious as of now regarding surgery.:wink2:

Wow that does seem really fast I started this process June 20 and will get my surgery date next week. Probably will be in Sept. However, from what I have read on these boards every person, every doctor, and every insurance company has a different way of doing things so as long as you are comfortable with your doctors and they say you are ready then congratulations and GO FOR IT!! Best of luck with your surgery and keep us up to date! :wink2:

You have lost that much weight without the surgery? Thats awesome. Did your doctor put you on a diet so far out or are you doing it on your own?

Thanks! :D My nutritionist put me on a diet of 25 grams of Protein at each meal, 2 cups of non-starchy vegetables with each meal and 2 pieces or 2 cups of fruit a day. The only thing I drink now is Water, Crystal Light, Fruit2O, and 1 Decaf coffee a day. I actually adjusted faster to the diet than I thought I would but sometimes feel like I am being buried in vegetables:eek:. I have also started walking everyday which helps also.

My surgery date was pushed up, to September 8. I am currently on the shake (liver shrinking) diet and have been for 6 days. No cheating yet but starving and really missing food. So far I have dropped from 322lbs. to 309lbs in these 6 days. Maybe I can be in the two hundreds for surgery. Lets see!

Im Sept 9!!! I am so excited!!! But, I am thinking of maybe doing some shake days because I have not had to do the pre-op diet, but afraid my dr will go in and than close up saying my liver is too fatty. Maybe a few pounds will do it?

Good luck everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
