This was a rerun of a show originally aired earlier this year. I thought Oprah herself was fairly nonjudgemental about the various surgeries, but I also thought Dr Oz was an idiot; he kept holding up both hands in a huge circle when he talked about the band, like it is about 6 inched in diameter. The other thing that bothered me was how Oprah had a girl on at the end of the show who had lost weight without surgery, and O encouraged her audience to applaud that girl to the exclusion of the other WLS patients and commented right at the end how that girl was "an inspiration." WTF??? Check back in three years and see who has kept the weight off!

I didn't see this particular episode....In fact, I don't watch Oprah, but my wife does, so I've seen some of her shows. It seems to me that Oprah tends to agree whole-heartedly with whatever guest she has on the show at the time, no matter how looney or "out there" they are.

I guess my point is that if the doctor on her show wasn't really into WLS, then I can see how Oprah wouldn't be into WLS either....until a new "authority" comes on later that supports WLS. Then Oprah'll probably do a 180 degree turn.

I watched the show and was wondering if anyone else had. I felt like Dr. Oz was totally against weight loss surgery. It's like he was saying that the lap-band teaches us to eat like we should be eating in the first place. Basically, why can't we just eat smaller portions and make healthier choices without having surgery. I mean it's as simple as that-eat smaller portions, eat the right foods, and exercise! Boy, why didn't we think of that sooner Dr. Off to see the Wizard? He really made me mad. I hope he goes to munchkin land one day and they are all morbidly obese! Maybe they'll strangle him with a lap-band. :crying:

Lmao. Im a teen bandster so I felt that watching this episode which was about teen wls was a must for me. And I agree so called Dr.Oz iz a complete jackass. It seems like the teen know more about the surgery than he does.

The kids and their parents were disagreeing with Ozzy and with good reason. I guess he feels that because he is a Dr. he knows best.

Well wth what about bariatric DOCTORS? He thinks they don't know what they are doing either. He made me sooo angry idk if you can tell lol but I wud love to strangle the fool with a lap band.

Yes, the teens on the show and their parents were much more educated about the lap-band than Dr. Ozzie. Oprah should have experts in the field on the show instead of him.

I agree that it would have been nice if a lap band Dr. was the one talking about the band with the teens. I believe with all my heart that Dr. Oz is clueless about the hows of obesity. How it starts, how it hurts and how it is much more complicated that just eating too much.

So many factors contribute to the overeating, emotions, environment, family genetics, finances, lifestyles, sleep problems, food quality and on and on.

I am so sad to watch the comercials on tv anymore, the food producers strip our food of esential nutrients, we are the most overfed, undernourished population...

Well I thought Oprah could have focused more on the band, I think too much went into just one program.

I guess when I get my own program, I can run it my way!

Ever feel like 95 percent of doctors are against WLS and 5 percent are for it? Hmmm, kind of like how 95 percent of people who lose weight on diets will regain their weight and only 5 percent will keep it off. I've had it with being in the 95 percentile group - that's why I got the band, and I'm loving it!

I saw my regular doctor last month about starting the lap-band process. He'd recently been to a seminar about it at Stanford U. He said he'd been against WLS before then, but he now realizes what a great tool it can be. He's particularly interested in how medical conditions become fixed by the surgery. Technology is changing and doctors need to keep up!

Yes, actually I saw my regular doc not too long ago and she thought it was great about my weightloss and was really interested in the band in a positive way. Then I saw another doc and I told him I couldn't swallow pills because I had a band. He had no idea what I was talking about for a minute. Then he said well, I'm sure they can dissolve! Yeah, maybe when I puke it up after it getting stuck it'll dissolve in my spit on the floor. I didn't feel like educating him. I just said I suppose I could crush up the pills. But I'm changing the post topic, aren't I? Sorry!

I don't know about anybody else, but I think Oprah has put on a few since her outlandish "50th" Birthday party...she's taken it off and put it on so many times over the years, maybe she should consider the procedure.

Also, as for doctors, I did discuss it with my GP who has known me since I was 13...she knows the struggles, the ups and downs, the successes and failures...she thought it was a good idea and even recommended a few that do the procedure. I also had to follow up with a cardiologist who also felt that I would benefit from the procedure. Of course, the less we tamper with our human body the better...the I know I can't live this way any longer. No one else should judge.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
