Um, IUD + Lap Band? Any problems?

Recommended Posts

I'm hopefully having surgery within a couple of months and I have an IUD. I don't see why, but would I need to have it removed?

I have the Mirena (the 5 year plastic IUD) and I was fine. My doctor said there was no reason to be concerned. Just to be sure ask yours, but you should be fine. Good luck!

I have the copper IUD (atleast I think its made of copper) and my surgeon knew about it before hand and it was fine. I am going for my first annual since surgery in Sept, but I cant see one affects the other?:confused2:

I didn't think there would be a problem (couldn't even think of a possible reason why), but you just never know. :whatchutalkingabout

i have the mirena, and I made both my Gyn and surgeon aware of the implant. The only thing my gyn recomended was to periodically check that the strings are still there. Feeling the strings will let you know that the device is still in place. The other thing is that with severe rapid weight loss, the device can slip, so if you start to feel weird or have unnecessary discomfort dont let it go. My friend lost 8 oz of blood from a punctured uterus from the mirena.

Before my surgery I had the ParaGard IUD...about 2 weeks post op I started having abdominal pain. I went to the ER and I had a cyst that was a little larger than my uterus on my ovary...I continued to grow more (they would each burst after getting so large) and finally my doctor decided that I needed to have my IUD removed as soon as possible...so now I'm back on the pill :)

I have the Implanon, it goes under the skin in your arm, close to your arm pit. It lasts for 3 years. I had it placed back in July and my surgeon said that it was fine, I have had no problems with it at all and I love it...

I also have the copper IUD. I had it about 3 years before lap-banding. I've been banded for over 10 months now and no ill effects.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
