Shoe Size Disappointment

Recommended Posts

I am a bit disappointed.. I have worn 11W-WW since I guess I was 12. I normally wear flip flops year round, since they don't discriminate.

For the first time since banding, I went shoe shopping 2 weeks ago. Down over 100lbs, and I heard others mention losing a size or two--or the width, etc.

My feet LOOK skinnier to me, but in the store, 11W is still what I wear. 11's were too tight, and I couldn't get my foot into a 10W.

What a bummer :)

I've only lost 23 lbs so far and I am down a half size. Started at 10s now I can wear 9 1/2 not a big difference so I only bought a few pair of sandals that were cheap. :) I hope they continue to shrink, especially after I get banded!

I think it depends on just how big your feet were when you were heavy. I know that sounds like a "duh" statement, but not everyone carries their weight in their feet.

I did. My ankles were swollen a lot, and my feet would puff up on bad days, so I have noticed a difference because neither of those happen anymore. My family refers to my 11/12s as "gunboats." Sadly, they are still part of the fleet. :wink2:

The difference I have noticed, however, is not the size of my shoes but how much better they fit. Strappy shoes, heels, etc. all sit differently now and fit and feel much better.

I know some people who are much heavier than I ever was who's feet just didn't show it. I know very thin people with very fat feet. *shrug*

My feet and ankles were ALWAYS very swollen and once I hit 20.5 lbs lost my ankles and feet deflated. Now at 23 my shoes are even a little more loose than before.

I had cankles even when I was in the 170s, and my feet grew with each pregnancy (luckily, I only had two children!) from a not-quite-eight, up to a 10 (and sometimes 10.5).

No chance I'll be fitting into Cinderella's glass slipper any time soon!

I sincerely hope my feet don't shrink - I have TOO much invested in my shoe collection to start all over again!

I too am an 11. The only thing I noticed was the shoes aren't as tight now. I tried on some sandles I have owned for a few years and they fit me across the strap much looser.

I think it just depends on how the shoe is made. I normally wear about a 9 1/2 but the other day I got into a size 8 athletic shoe. I can't wear that size in any other shoe.

My daughter is six feet and wears a 12, be glad you aren't a 12 as that's a whole new ballgame. Special order, plus she's a partial vegetarian and will not wear leather, it's not a fun day in shoe shop world!

All I know is that I was a size 8 1/2 before children and supposedly you can go up a size with each child, I'm a 10 now and it's definitely the length of the foot as my width has not changed but I'm a barefoot person so they do tend to spread from what I hear. Nancy:smile:

The same thing happened to me!! Every time I had a child my feet got one size bigger. I know with extra weight though, you are stretching your arches out flat, so your feet are longer. I am hoping that as i lose weight my arches will arch back up a touch!!!

Hmm I didn't know weight made your feet flatter. I still have pretty high arches...always have

Laura, sometimes I swear you're my kindred spirit

Honestly, I'm looking forward to being able to wear regular width shoes almost more than I'm looking forward to smaller clothes. I have a serious shoe fetish and it kills me that I can't buy anything! My shoes are all so ugly because I can't fit into the tiny cute ones. I pray pray pray that at least my width shrinks...I wear a 10/11 right now depending on the width of the shoe, I know lengthwise if I'd lose the wide width, I'd wear a 9 or 9.5 (I checked on those little foot measurers they have at shoe stores).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
