Please recommend a COMFORTABLE, WIDE Bicycle seat

Recommended Posts

I have never been able to find a comfortable enough bicycle seat to ride a bike so I sold all our bikes. Is there a recommendation on a bike with a comfortable seat or a comfortable seat sold separately. It needs to be wide to accomodate my wide behind. :)

hi there

My name is Traci "AKA" HP....I started cycling last year in 2007 on a Hybrid Bike. You can upgrade your seat very easily. I weighed 335 or so when I started and my Local Bike shop put me on a real nice gel seat. They have so many different kinds of seats, and when you get your bike, and as you loose weight, you are going to find why the bigger seats are not always the most comfy.

But....I started the same way.....and they have them. You can get one anywhere from 15-50 bucks...honestly...I think around 30 bucks is about all I would spend.

What kind of bike are you planning on getting as I noticed you sold yours???

Good luck....you will get use to them after awhile..and it will get easier.....

Traci

I haven't purchased a bike yet. What is the difference between the standard bike and a hybrid? I have my surgery Sept. 2nd and would like to start riding in a local park with a rolling terrain. My current weight is 279 but I plan to lose some on the pre opt medi-fast diet. Thanks and I hope to see you on the Bicycle forum.

I hope to join your thread soon after I have surgery which is on the 2nd of Sept. Thanks for the invite. I noticed you had your surgery on my daughters birthday. You've done quite well with losing weight. Aside from the band, what else do you attribute your weight loss success to? Congrats!

EXERCISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really and truly, exercise...moving your body and burning calories. Building muscle to burn fat throughout the day and while sleeping. Its amazing what exercise will do for you!!! BUT, you have to find something that works for you!!! Something that you love, and want to do, and don't feel like you HAVE to do it. That is the key!!! Try lots of different things until you find the one thing that calls your name and you do it for the fun of it. I walked, jogged, swam, biked.....roller bladed, I just loved biking the most. I have bought 5 bikes this last year alone for myself...started with a el cheapo from Kmart...went to a sport comfy from Local Bike shop (LBS),when I worked my way up to riding 20+ miles at a time, I got a road bike......since I live in Idaho we have lots of mountain dirt trails, so I got a mountain bike too. Then I traded my low end road bike for a middle range bike that is specific to women and love love love it!!!!!! We now ride about 130 miles a week and I don't do it for exercise at all anymore, it is just what I love to do!! Good luck with finding something that you love to do, it takes time to figure it out, so don't give up!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
