Dairy Challenge

Recommended Posts

I've been doing much better than I thought I would with this. I've been having cheese, ricotta, and milk each and every day. I catch ice cream on occassion too, and am trying to get creative in how I get it in. If I happen to not get it all in, I just pop a Calcium tablet at night before heading to bed.

Good luck everyone, and congrats on kicking the coke habit Lisa! Sugar can be VERY addictive, just like you said.

It's only been a couple days, and yesterday I broke down and had half a Diet Coke. My problem is 3:00 p.m. It's like Amityville Horror where the creepy guy wakes up the same time every night with demons talking to him. I don't like 3pm. Then there's the whole set of night time demons.

Maybe I don't need a Band. Maybe I just need an exorcism.

For those that like yogurt, I found out you can buy yogurt makers. The 'starter' is just a cup of whatever yogurt you can buy at the store that has live bacteria in it. I'm going on vacation next wee, but then I think I am going to order a yogurt maker. It'll be something fun to do maybe, and a good way to get the dairy in.

I have to get some Ricotta. Kel, how do you eat it?

I just bought a frozen soft yogurt and ice cream maker, but I sent it back before I opened it because I read the recipes and there was too much prep work. What machine are you talking about? The one I got actually wanted me to cook in a pan, blend in a blender, then chill the mixture for 30 minutes before putting it in the machine. I just wanted to toss all the ingredients in and walk away!

The only machine I've read a recommendation for is this one: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004SUHY/ref=ase_heidiswanson-20/102-8022975-1520903?v=glance&s=kitchen]Amazon.com: Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker: Kitchen & Dining[/ame]

it seems to have good reviews on the Amazon site as well. And it says for frozen yogurt, just freeze the yogurt (duh), lol

Lisa,

I just eat mine mixed with Peanut Butter. I've had the whole and reduced fat ones both, and I have to admit that the reduced fat one actually tastes better to me.

Just mix that bad boy with some Peanut Butter and eat away!

I know it sounds gross, but it's divine!!!

Betty, you don't make a very good plus size gal by saying yuck to food. It's food! How can you not like ricotta when that's what's in lasagna? I missed my morning yogurt so anything sounds good right now.

I used to make yohurt when I was in high school, 8 million years ago. My mom had an electric yohurt maker, and as I recall, it was easy-peasy.

So... do jalipeno poppers count as dairy or veg?

Damn, damn, damn! I was gonna eat my tiny band lunch when Shelly (my gal pal) with her darling daughter. They took me to Marie Calendar's, where I did not make nice choices. But at least I got my dairy in by sharing cheesecake with McCall. DOH!

You *can* but it's not generally recommended. Eating that stuff is what got us here in the first place right? Yogurt and things like that are more recommended. And broths and things the provide protien.

Hey, I eat it in Lasagna, but not as a side dish! Yuck! Tried it several times when I was on the Southbeach Diet, and I hate it! :D But then when it is a lone it doesn't have all that good pasta! :):D:D

My friend did South Beach and told me to mix 1 cup of Ricotta (or was it a half cup?) with a packet (or 2...to taste) of Splenda and a quick dab of vanilla extract. It's actually kind of yummy! It's NOT ice cream, or yogurt, but it's sweet and thick and filling.

These days, I'm doing good to get my CIB in every day. I usually don't have trouble getting in a cheese or two, but I haven't had any yogurt, except those nasty Go-gurt thingys in the tubes that my kids love. Gross. Well, the strawberry/banana is good.

So I filled my usual CIB glass with Water, then poured it in to the measuring cup and I'm drinking 14 ounces of milk when I have a CIB, and the packet says add 1 cup (8 ounces) of milk...so I'm ODing on the milk in my CIB but it's still yummy, and ALMOST 2 servings, right?

Trouble is, it's liquid calories. I find myself skipping it because it's just extra calories at the end of the day. I just pour another cup of coffee instead and don't really eat until lunch. I'm not miserable, but I'm sure it doesn't help my get-up-and-go in the mornings. If it weren't for the coffee, I'd be sunk by noon!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
