second journey with the lap band

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I am Melissa from Virgie, KY. I received the lap band in September of 2003. In time, I lost over 150 pounds. However, the doctor who performed the surgery became very busy and I could not longer receive the personal attention from that doctor that I wanted. The office had hired others to complete the fills, and about a two years ago, I got to where I could not eat hardly anything. Even liquids were giving me a problem, so I decided about a year ago that I would find another doctor. I even thought my band might have slipped. After tests were done, the doctor removed all the fill in my band, and it was found at that time that I had twice as much in my band as should have been. The doctor left the fill out, but I still had the band. She stated I needed to eat some, and then get the fill again. However, between being in the hospital with Epilepsy several times on one year, and helping to care for my husband, who is a disable Iraqi Freedom Vet, I never got around to getting a fill. This is entirely my fault, and I ended up gaining quite a bit of weight back. In the morning I have an appt. to get a fill, and I am excited about going on this journey once again. This time, no taking the fill out. I am so ready to lose the weight I have gained back, and get back in shape. I was very excited to find this web site in order to find support. After all, it is like I am starting this journey all over again, and this time, I would like some friends for that journey!

Melissa,

Who was your doctor in Kentucky that was not attending to your after care? Who are you going to now? How much weight to you let yourself gain back? I am so glad you have brought yourself back to this point of losing and taking care of yourself again. It is so hard to keep yourself focused in the fast paced day to day events that go on in our lives. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Cheryl

Good luck with getting back on track :0)

You can do this, after all you have done it before and already know the ropes. It also just demonstrates one thing I love about the lapband, sometimes life gets in the way but you can always get back into the swing of things when you are ready.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
