Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

I'd like to introduce myself:

Recommended Posts

Hello all, my name is Cherie. I have posted questions here before, but that is as far as I've ever went until now. I am a 41 year old mother of 3 beautiful daughters. They are the reason I am going to have the lap-band surgery, well them and myself. But it wasn't until recently that I realized all the things I cannot do or am self-conconsious about doing. Such as riding rides in amusement parks (weight restrictions), Water parks, even chairs creeking when I sit in them, but most important to me, I have no lap for my youngest to sit on. So I took the first step and I am seeing the doctor for my initial consultation on June 30th. I am soooo excited. Anyway I would really appreciate any and all information, tips and so on to make this as smooth journey as possible. So again, Hello to all and I look forward to chatting with you. Thanks Cherie.

Hi Cherie!

I'm a mom and here to tell you that mom-life is MUCH better after losing some of the excess weight. My littlest girl would have run me into a heart attack 100 lbs ago. Now I can (almost) keep up with her! :)

Welcome to LBT and best of luck with your continued pursuit of the band. We're always here to listen and answer if we can!

Thank you everyone so being so kind. I am looking forward to moving this thing along as quickly as possible. I now weigh 235 lb., gosh I've never told anyone that before, and my goal weight is 150 or whatever makes me more comfortable. Once I reached 200 it was like I couldn't stop then. I am already over 200 so what difference does it make. I know all the mistakes that I made, but that doesn't make the weight go away. Anway that is all behind me soon, I hope, I haven't met with the doctors or my insurance hasn't approved yet, so I better not count my chickens yet. But hopefully all will go well.

Cherie,

I understand completely! When I hit 200#, it seemed no matter what I tried, it wouldn't come off. My goal is also 150#. Going to my consult this Thurs. the 9th...cannot wait! Still waiting on insurance approval too.

Thanks Lu Ann, let me know how it goes at the doctor. I just got off the phone with my insurance company and it sounds as if all will go through. I meet all the requirements and my insurance company just approved the lap-band procedure 3 months ago. So MAYBE everything will go through smoothly, 24 days til consultation and counting. Good luck on yours.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
