My concern at the moment is how to get enough Protein daily post-op. Since hubby is not a grocery shopper - I want to make sure I have the proper things stocked up ahead of time....and time is growing shorter as we speak!!

I will be having the Optifast shake as my Protein requirement post op, I know they are available over in the US (I'm from Australia)...but the guys over in the States have been talking about a protein bullet which those doing post op have recommended. So if you search on Protein Bullet, I am sure you'll find out more or alternatively hassle one of the American's on here and I am sure they'll point you in the right direction!! (I think you can order them online and they'll deliver to you anyway!)

But given you only have a few days, you should be able to get the Optifast (I recommend the chocolate flavour with COLD water) and you can find a place near you by going here http://www.optifast.com/Pages/find_an_optifast_clinic.aspx

I know that this is just about the last possible minute, but you can get the 25g bullets at some Wal-Mart stores. They are $1.97 each and they only carry fruit punch. Since you have to drink as much liquid as you can tolerate, putting this in your Water or crystal light is a good way to get your Protein in at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestions - plus I will still have my EXCELLENT tasting Unjury shakes. These are GREAT with skim milk.

Getting nervous (more apprehensive than anything) - I report tomorrow morning at 10AM CDT.

I will try to post as soon as I am able afterward to let you know I made it through!!!!!

Thanks to all for all the encouragement and information so far. I look forward to MUCH more "on the other side"!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
