Down 106 lbs

Recommended Posts

HI,

My lap band surgery was Jan. 2005. By the end of 2006, I had gone from 256 lbs. to 150. I have had some of my own trials and tribulations but have seem to have finally come up with a diet that allows me to feel good and not feel as though I am missing out on anything. Personally I am trying to get to about 140 purely for vanity. I'm into a size 6 which I still can't believe. Its the best when clothing fits season to season. I have spoken at different classes to help others get on track and stay motivated. If I can help, I would love to help.

Pat, Great work on your beginning! You must be following the diet very well. If you end up trying something that doesnt agree with you at first look at the situation you were in while eating. Stress at work, home, kids, etc. seem to make a difference. People tend to eat faster under stress. Congratulations on starting the healthy phase of your life.

I'm interested in your philosophy. From what you said I thought maybe you are one of those who prefers to eat a little more and maybe have your band a little loose. Is that the case? I am new at this but so far I feel that if I am losing weight I will wait on the fills. No use being tight and risking having problems when I can lose weight a little slower and feel more satisfied with the amount I eat.

I love to hear success stories. I wish I had one to share about myself...but I still have hope and know one day I will succeed.

My surgery date was November 2005 and my total loss is 35 lbs. I would love to hear your plan and how you've been so successful.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
