Okay so I can't help but wonder if I made a mistake.... I am 1 day out after being post op and i am in pain... cant really lay down or sit for long periods of time. And all I can think about and smell is the food that my mom is cooking... ahh.. lol maybe I should have just hit the gym harder... what is everyone else's thoughts? Are these thoughts normal?

Hi Lisa,

you're just out girl! yes its normal at one point or another to think what we just did to ourselves. but the pain & aches do go away. i remember the only thing that got to me was the shoulder pain, but i kept on telling myself it will go away soon...and it did, in about 4 days.

if you can or are up for it, go outside for a little walk to get away from the smell of food. or you can just tell your mom not to cook!

also, if your doc already "ok'd" a gym routine, go for it, but start off easy.

you'll do great, you'll see! :lol::wink2:

Your thoughts are completely normal. In a few days, the pain shouldn't be as bad and you will be a little more comfortable each day. I had some of the same feelings, and I can tell you I would go back and do it all over again for the results I'm getting. Hang in there!

I am only 11 days post-op and I totally felt that way the day after. I actually felt that way for the first four days. I think suddenly realized I wasn't in terrible pain but just annoying pain.

The gas pain was horrible. The incision pain was tough and my back hurt. I couldn't stand up straight. I felt alot like the hunchback of the hospital.

I am already felt a million times better. It does not take long to feel better. Hang in there! I hope the pain gets better soon.

I would not have Tomato Soup yet, try to have clear things only such as consumme or bouillion, apple juice, etc.

Hi there,

I'm in my third week post-op, and it really does get better. I was told to do clear fluids for the first six days, and then full fluids (i.e. your Tomato Soup or Soup with 'no lumps, bumps, or chunks') for a week after. I drank broth and juice for the clear liquid phase. I also really enjoyed having 'pedia-lite' freezies. It's important to have something with electro-lites (sp?) in it, though gatorade has a lot of sugar.

I forced myself to walk up and down the hallway (apartment building) for the first couple of days, and I even did a couple of flights of stairs with each walk. The nurse advised the stairs, and I found that all my gas pain was gone in a couple of days. The problem is that my muscles cramped up horribly after that because I wasn't properly hydrated, but this got better when I drank more and took more of the pedia-lite (and gastralyte). Your pharmacist should be able to help your mom find it if you don't have any. So I'd recommend exercise, but make sure you're properly hydrated (and rub a535 helped too).

Good luck! And remember, it does get better.

I got on line today to see if all this pain was normal or was something wrong with me.....Today is better than yesterday, but I am still taking my pain meds...

Hang in there you will start to feel better! I had surgery on the 5th and I am feeling a lot better each and every day.

Make sure you get up and move. Do what is most comfortable for you, that will get the gas moving and out of your system. Make sure you take your pain meds so you stay in front of the pain. Don't wait until it really hurts to take the meds - that is too late! Sip, sip, sip, keep fluids in your system so you don't dehydrate, that will make you feel miserable and make the pain worse. Nothing creamy until you can move to full liquids (if your doc allows), I can't do creamy until mushies! Like April PA said - popsicles. They are a life saver when trying to stay hydrated. Make sure they are SF!

You will be feeling better in no time! The pain from surgery is something you just have to work through. I would go for a walk while your mom is cooking so you don't have to smell the food. Tell her to buy take out this week, until you think you are ready to smell food and not eat!

Don't know if this helps - but lots of us have just been there, and it does get better!

It is totally normal to feel what you are feeling. In fact, I told my husband a couple of days before surgery I would probably go thorugh a bunch of emotions right after surgery and I did. Now I couldn't be happier that I did this. I love my band.

Make sure you take your meds as prescribed since you are having pain. It will help you heal quicker and get back to your normal self. It will get better in a few days.

I am four days post op and my doc had me on clear liquids for the first 24 hours and then on liquids for the next two weeks.

I have had broth, Jello, thin Tomato Soup, grape juice, Decaf tea, cherry shaved ice, and thinned chocolate pudding with a scoop of Protein Powder in it.

I can't seem to eat much at any one time but have tried to be sure to push the fluids.

Hang in there fellow bandsters from this week. We will make it! :Dancing_sorry:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
