Congraduation........... I was banded on the 1st of Aug. I also had little discomfort. I have almost nothing now. Only if I sneeze or cough. I haven't needed any pain meds in days. I now can sleep on my stomach. My tape is still on my incisions but is looking like it wants to fall off. Good luck

I slept in a recliner for a week. I bought a big cushy one just for that reason....although I think everyone is different, the majority can not lay down to sleep without discomfort for awhile.

HI, I was banded 8.8.8.!! I too am in alot of pain from gas and also i think from swelling on the left hand side. NO medication really helps me. WHat does help is knowing that this is normal and may last a little while. I do so appreciate all of you who have made the effort to add your comments to this thread, as it is so helpful.

I'm in Day 4 and I'm feeling great. I'm not going to be on my regular pain meds anymore. I probably could have stopped a couple days ago but I just thought since I have them I'll take them as needed. I only really feel discomfort when I wake up from sleeping because I roll around the bed. Right now I'm mostly itchy and that's because my incisions are healing. MAN I WANNA SCRATCH SO BADLY!

Well it's good to hear that others are feeling the same. Today was a hard day and I spent most of it in bed. My port hurts pretty bad, but the gas is what's killing me. Is anyone feeling light headed or weak from not getting much down? I've tried to stop the pain meds because they felt pretty harsh on an empty stomach. Anyway...we'll all get through it and it is So worth it!

Hi,

I was banded August 5th, and could lie down the first night. The trick is to put a couple of fluffy pillows under your knees, which brings your thighs up and stops the pulling on your stomach. Just use a regular pillow for your head. This was the best way of sleeping for me, because my torso was flat, which helped the gas pains in my shoulder, but my stomach wasn't being stretched because my legs were drawn up a little. Hope that helps!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
