Any Self-pays Out There?

Recommended Posts

If you were a self-pay and had surgery in FL can you email me with what you paid and who the surgeon was?

I was all set to have Dr. Ortiz do the surgery but I am having second thoughts for no real reason other then the inconvenience of travelling, taking time from work (me and my husband) etc....

I just have to see for my own peace of mind if there are other options that are affordable.

Thank you so much!!!!!

I;m a self pay and after seeing what everyone else was charging, I got on line and found Monterrey, Mexico. I am a nurse and was very skeptical but kept asking questions, found others who had surgery with Dr. Sanchz and said, YES. It was cheaper than anywhere inthe US = the hospital is US owned and everything was incredibly immaculate. Better care than in any US facility. My surgery was 8700. but I think it's cheaper now. Try, ready4achange.com.....I would recommend Dr. Sanchez and his staff to anyone.

I've not been banded yet. Still in the "thinking and going to

meetings" phase. But my best friend was banded and

she went to Dr. Mark Fusco (he's in Brevard County)

He is WONDERFUL!!

I've tried every diet out there and some I invented myself = obviously my diets didn't work or I'd be sitting on my tush making lots of $$$$//// This was the answer for me - and I wish I had known about it sooner. Let me know if you have any questions. Been there - done that - and am sooo happy that I did. Charlie

I am getting banded on June 20th by Dr. Fusco in Melbourne. The cost is $15,750. I also considered Mexico, but there is virtually NO doctors who will do follow up or fills at a reasonable price. There is a Dr. in Miami who does fills for $300-600. It's just not worth the savings to go to a strange place with no follow up care. Dr. Fusco is a board certified general surgeon who specializes in gastro. and studied at John Hopkins. My cousin is a nurse who highly recommends him. I also know several people who have had gallbladder surgery from him. Check out his website. Lifeshape.com

Thank you everyone. I appreciate it. I think I will be going with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico and follow up with Dr. Gomez in Coral Gables, near Miami. I set the date for August 12th my friend will be having it too so this looks like the route we are going.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
