OK guys and gals. My surgery date is 1 week from this coming Monday. I am going 2morrow to buy grocries for the family and have decided to go ahead and by some stuff for myself. Only thing is, I'm not sure what to buy. I have heard that I will be on Clear Liquids and this is fine by me. Can someone help me out on what I can get. Can I get like Jello and cream of chicken Soup or what. Chicken broth comes to mind, I can tollerate it, but I don't exactly love it. If anyone dont mind, can they give me a few ideas of what to pick up. Also, what can I drink, apple juice, is this ok or what? Help me out here please.

if you go to this area it will give you some good ideas for different stages

Just FYI I would not buy TOO many things of each item.

Your tastes can change after surgery , and if you stock up on certain items you might find they taste like CRAP after surgery LOL

I had a SHELF of Jello and I almost threw up when i ate it after surgery , same w/ popsicles. Everyone told me " your taste buds change after surgery" But i did not realize RIGHT after .

So buy a few things to get you buy then send someone back to the store as you realize you can tolerate them .

Here is the link for some ideas

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
