I had my surgery done out of town on July 31:eek:,,, on Wednesday I started feeling really bad... When I called the doctor on Tuesday they advised me to move to mushies..I had the shakes really really bad.. and all i did was belch. So I got up Wednesday and decided ok I can eat.. like the doctor said slow and easy... well I ate one bite of a scrambled egg as the dr ordered and i was gone.. i began pbing over and over and over and over..I called the surgeon and he told me to go to the nearest bariatric hospital I did... met up with a dr that never saw a lap band before.. He called my surgeon and they both decided I was dehydrated and that I needed to be admitted.. I was curled up in pain Wednesday night , Thursday and Thursday night. I got this nurse today who said so your our lap band patient that can't hold anything down. She said why haven't they called another surgeon.. She stomped out of my room yelling people in this place are idiots.. She made 2 calls a handsome surgeon showed up and drained the 2.5 cc's out of my band giving me instant relief.. Home now and all is good..

Jill, glad you are doing better! Nurses are truly angels on earth. When my husband was in ICU back in March it was a nurse who told the doctor what was wrong. She was 100% right!

wow, I'm so glad you got a great nurse who 'got' wha you needed. I too didn't realise anyone filled anything into the band at the time you get surgery. My Dr made clear I had no fill whatsoever, and wouldn't until at least 4 weeks out from surgery.

Hope you're on the mend now!

Wow, what an experience....glad you're doing well now. I know they say that the band doesn't have saline in it when it's first placed, that comes after a fill. I haven't had a fill yet....I'm getting my first this Wednesday, but I definately can't eat what I used to be able to eat. I must have some restriction because a much less amount of food satisfies me. I would like a little fill because it will give me that full sensation a bit longer than I have now.

Maybe this is why my surgeon was adamant about giving me a pre fill during surgery. I asked twice and he was absolutely against it. If you have swelling and dealing with restriction, yep, you cant get anything down.

Some surgeons want to give you a head start, that doesnt always pay off.

I know they say that the band doesn't have saline in it when it's first placed, that comes after a fill.

Except some people do have a small fill at the time of surgery, a prefill, so her band DID have saline in it when it was placed.

She made 2 calls a handsome surgeon showed up and drained the 2.5 cc's out of my band giving me instant relief.. Home now and all is good..(OP said banded on July 31st, this amount was obviously a prefill)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
