Does anybody NOT throw up?

Recommended Posts

I know, such a lovely title to my post! I'm 4 days away from my banding (very very nervous!!) and I was just wondering about the percentage of folks who actually NEVER throw up after the operation. I am assuming that, more often than not, one would throw up at least once! I ask because, although I'm scared of the surgery, I'm ALMOST as scared of throwing up! (I have really only done it about 5 times in my life that I can remember!). I mean, I know everyone is different; and if I do go really, really slowly on the post-op diet, I am less likely to actually regurgitate. But just trying to prepare myself! Does it hurt? Does it come on quickly? What if I'm at work? Would love to hear your thoughts; thanks everyone in advance!

I did not throw up after surgery. I did, however, throw up on the plane en route to Denver to have my surgery. I was really worried about the flight home but I did ok. I had alot of medication for nausea that the surgeon gives you. He put a patch on the back of my ear that is good for 72 hours. He also gives you a perscription for anti-nausea medication. The only thing was the night before surgery I had chicken and salsa for dinner and the heartburn after the surgery was bad, but he also fixed my hiatal hernia.

Today is one month since I was banded and I have not thrown up at all. Actually, I feel the same way you do about throwing up and I use that as incentive to make sure I cut my meat small (use a dice for size), chew my food good (put down my fork between bites) and make sure each bite is small enough. I also stick to my MDs recommendations for diet. Good Luck!

I was banded on the 24th and just started my mushie stage. I have not thrown up at all--nor have I felt the need to. I only felt a little nauseated when I woke up. My anesthesiologists was amazing!

You will do wonderfully!

I was banded June 16th. I haven't had one single issue. No throwing up, no PB'ing, no gas. nothin. I swear if it weren't for my restriction I'd think the doctor forgot to put the band in me! This really has been so much better than I ever imagined. Now don't let that get your hopes up. Everyone reacts totally different, so if you have problems don't fret!

i've been banded since April and i have thrown up but i have PB'd.

PB'ing is SO much better than actually throwing up. When you PB, the food hasn't made it to the stomach yet so there is just the food and a lot of saliva... no stomach acids mixed in.

now i'm not saying that it's OK to PB... just that it's not as bad as you're think.

Well, some people will throw up, some people won't. I'm not sure anyone really compiles stats on this.

Some of the people posting here are just a week or two (or less) after their surgery, and they do not yet have a "fill". For me, that's when the fun began. Get some Fluid into that band, the constriction starts, and if you AREN'T CAREFUL and don't follow the Doc's instructions (if you are lucky enough to have a Dr that gives you instructions...I was not) then vomiting may be your new best friend....until you figure out HOW you need to eat.

I have been banded since April and have not thrown up once and believe me I was scared thinking I would. I let my doctor know and they took care of me with anti nausea medication. I was feeling nauseated the day after surgery but I drank some hot peppermint tea and have had no nausea since! Except when I overeat that is!

I think it happens to everyone eventually, you will slip up and eat something too fast or something just wont go down.

But it should not be a regular occurrence. For me, its been like five or six times in three years and I made it the entire first year before it happened.

I didnt know anyone threw up after surgery. I thought that was when you were filled too tight and tried to eat food that you didnt chew well, it could come back up.

Iv never heard of anyone throwing up after surgery, if that is what you are asking.

I had nausea badly. It started a few hours after coming out of anesthesia.

Thankfully I stayed in the hospital overnight. They gave me IV meds for nausea...helped right away.

My doc also sent me home with pills to take. I took them the entire first week to ensure I wouldn't throw up.

I haven't had an episode since being in the hospital.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
