Just a few questions about what and how I will be able to eat after surgery..

-I hear you have to eat your Proteins first, can you do sandwiches? pizza? Sushi since they are combinations?

-What happens if something is really dry, can you take a sip of Water?

-Is it ok to snack? Or do you have to just do the 3 meals a day?

-Do drinks make you full at non meal times?

-How does alcohol affect you?

Thanks!

I personally can not eat sandwiches, pizza etc. Anything doughy. But some people can. I only eat three meals a day and try no to snack. But do sometimes. I never drink so don't know about alcohol. Good Luck.

I can do small sandwiches if I toast the bread. Can usually do a "wrap" easier. Pizza.....can only do if it is a very thin or crispy crust. I do take very small sips with meals or a bite of applesauce to wet my mouth.

I don't drink so don;t know about that one............

Snacks, sometimes. I don't make a habit of it, but might have a half a peach or a no fat cheese "stick" if I need it. But I don't snack routinely. Only if I feel a real need

bread is difficult for most bandsters; it balls up in the stomach and gets stuck. If I go to a barbecue I get a hot dog or hamburger with no bun, to be safe.

I do take a sip of Water if necessary. It's funny, because some people say that is such a no-no, then they say they douse their food with sauce to help it go down. Well, what do they think the sauce is made with? Its main ingredient is Water.< /p>

I am one month out and started "normal" foods this past week. I have had chicken, steak, pizza (1 piece), salad, and have not had any problems. I was told no bread or celery and I have not tried either because I don't want to put myself in harms way.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
