Big Head Syndrome

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to those of you that made goal.

But I have a question, does your head appear really big compared to your now skinny body (i.e. Star jones appearance?)?

I don't know why I was thinking about this this morning. I already have an enormous sized head. I can't imagine what I'll look like after. Like a human bobble toy. :)

I, on the other hand, always thought I looked like Zippy the Pinhead with a tiny head and a great big body when I was fat.

I have a feeling that both your syndrome and my impression of myself are perceptual problems, not actual physical abnormalities. We have a hard time looking in the mirror and seeing what is actually there. To me, I still look about a size 14 in the mirror, but I'm actually a 6/8. I know what the tag says on the clothes, but it ain't what I see.

Star Jones has a big head? I never noticed.

Really, in proportion to our bodies I think all of our heads will look a little bigger :0).

Our perceptions change so much as we lose significant weight. I was really shocked how my legs changed when riding a bike. My thighs look soooo long, but they aren't any longer, they are just not as wide. I also notice when I am folding clothes or doing laundry I keep thinking, whose clothes are these . . . oh, I guess they are mine :0). What interesting perceptual adjustments we need to make over time.

Oh yea...Star Jones has a big ass head.

I mean, I'm quite aware that I have a big head. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed by it. It is what it is. And I'm a pretty girl despite it. I'm actually looking forward to being a lollipop.

May I ask a related question? Did anyone feel her (or his) hair got thicker because the scalp was stretched over less fat? I assume there must be some fat between the scalp and the skull. I'm hoping the hair above my forehead will look thicker with less head to cover.

Oh no! Things I've not thought of. Now I imagine my thinner self looking like a lollipop covered in fur....not a great mental image!!!

Thighs looking longer - I could cope with that. Not recognizing my clothing - that's ok. But a hairy big ass head??

Please excuse me while I run to the bathroom to check....

Julia,

I think that is hilarious but you may be on to something.

Did you ever watch the show Popular? There was a really big guy on there who after the show was cancelled had bypass surgery. He made a comment on a talk show about being 2 inches shorter due to the fat he lost in his feet and the top of his head so your theory might work about the scalp being stretched.

Its something to think about

I've heard of people losing height by losing weight. Just my luck. I lose a couple of inches in height and then have to lose even MORE weight. :)

Oh dear! Another thing to think about in addition to my mother-in-law thinking I am getting shorter. I have measured myself a couple of times, and yep still 5'4". Thank goodness the scale is going in the downward direction.

I agree, I would not mind looking like a lollipop!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
