Hello, this is my first post - I found this thread by searching on Chico CA. I am getting started in the process and I am interested in making contacts locally. Enloe's program is not yet on my insurance list (Anthem BC) but they say it will be within a month or two. Sounds like it is a good place, I have talked to them and have the paperwork. Let me know if a group is forming or anything, I'm interested!!

Hi There and welcome! I had my band done at Enloe on May 12th with Dr's Ludwig and Simchuk. My whole experience from the pre op time through surgery and now post op has been wonderful .

If you can, come to the support group meeting on Wed the 26th of Nov from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Enloe Esplanade Building, corner of Esplanade and 5th Ave. It is going to be a good one. There you can meet some of the other banders. It is open and free to all.

Best wishes on your journey and keep in touch. Becky

Hi, I am new to Chico... I was banded in Ft Worth Texas by Dr Adam Smith, but had all of my restriction removed when I moved to California... we were afraid I would be stuck without a doctor here.

Boy, am I glad we did... because I have not been able to find a doctor in the area to maintain fills with.

Everyone only wants to work with their OWN patients.

Does anyone know of a doctor in the Chico area who does fills? I will be paying cash since I do not have insurance in California yet.

Also, I would be interested in coming to the support group. When does it meet?

Hi!

I know nothing about support groups here...don't go to them but would be willing to meet with bandsters.

I go to Dr. Helmut Billy up in Truckee...he is the best! His practice is in Ventura but comes up to Truckee one weekend a month and is just a really really cool doctor. He is more reasonable in price than any of the others (which the next closest is SF btw) I forget the name of the doctor down in SF but he was a real jerk and I will never go back to their center. Let me know if you want Dr. Billy's information.

Good luck!

how far is Truckee from Chico? I do not really know the area very well yet. Also, how much does he charge for fills?

I would love to have his info :)

Thanks!

I never really attended meetings either, I just thought it might be a good way to make new friends in a new town/state... friends that I already know I have something in common with :)

truckee is about 2.5-3 hours... I have friends that live in Tahoe currently so I use it as an excuse to go up and see them and get checked out as well.

If you google Helmut Billy you will find his number. The office itself has crazy hours. I think they are only taking calls tues through thursday. And I almost gave up on him but glad I didn't because he was SO much better than the dude down in SF. I will dig up his number and try and get it to you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
