no fill in band but cant get anything down

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have had my band for nearly 3 years. Evrything was fine with the band until i got pregnant and had my daughter. My doc took out all my fill in the band when i was 12 weeks pregnant due to bad reflux. I was fine for the whole pregnancy and could eat whatever i wanted with no problems or feeling of restriction.. Straight after i had my daughter by c section food started to get stuck. This has been going on now for 10 months and the doctor cant work our why... I have had a gastroscope and barium swallow that shows the band is fine and not slipped, however we cant work out why i have got so much restriction. this is really starting to ruin my life as i cant eat anything except junk like chocolate to fill me and dont even bother with eating any solid foods anymore as i know i will vomit and be in pain.

Has this happened to anyone else or can anyone shed some light on the possible cause?

Thanks

hi there. the only other time i've heard of this was in a friend who had a band that was fairly old by medical standards. she got it in 2002. after her pregnancy, she developed an allergy to her band and had a gastro-infection. the tissues in her surrounding organs were irritated by the band and got inflamed, causing pressure in her lower throat and the constant vomiting you described. the vomiting didn't help. she had been having port issues anyway, so she finally decided on a complete band/port replacement surgery last april, 2007. she's fine now, but all she could eat was frozen yogurt and Soups for a long time until they figured out what was happening.

good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
